I ordered the flip chip yesturday, I can't wait to get it! I was wondering if you need to pull the computer out on a 98 f-150 and clean the electrical contacts before putting in the chip. I put a chip on my 93 ranger a couple years ago and had to really scrub to get the coating they put on off so that it would make contact. I wasn't sure if the instructions in the package would have this info or not. If it does need to be cleaned, do you have any recommendations for how to clean it?

Second question, do you have any sound clips for the magnaflow cat back exhausts you have on your site? I was looking at the stainless si/so system you have. Can't afford it now, but can always dream

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes, with *any* Ford EEC-IV or EEC-V PCM you'll have to clean the J3 connector, but whatever you do, please, DON"T TOUCH IT until you get **and have thoroughly read every word** of our Performance Products documentation. Otherwise you *will* have problems.

For our customers here at Performance we write 4-5 pages of far more highly detailed information written *specifically* to help owners of F-150's, Expeditions & Light Duty F-250's with proper installation of the Superchip. We go over everything from where to find the PCM to the easiest way to get to the PCM in these vehicles to how to properly disassemble the PCM & clean the connector and many, many other things that are required for a successful and trouble-free installation of the Superchip.

So whatever you do, DO NOT TOUCH that PCM or make any attempt to clean that connector before you receive and have thoroughly read *ALL* of the included documentation that we send out with the Superchip, otherwise you're going to have problems.

When you read *our* docs, you'll see they are much more thorough than what you got when you had that chip for your Ranger, and it will be an easier installation in a number of ways due to how thorough we are in our docs. Trust me, you'll be happy you waited until you got our docs!

No, we do not have sound clips, that's the job of the manufacturer to provide. Frankly, I think it's a waste of time as so many of them are so far removed from what the real sound is on the vehicle in the real world that I never bother to listen to a downloaded sound clip on a PC these days. You can always try the manufacturers web site (Magnaflow.com), and you can also use the search feature here to look for sound clips, to see if someone has maybe uploaded one here, as lots of people have done that from time to time with various exhausts so other here could hear them. Good luck with that!

You also might want to take a look at our SIDO exhaust system, it's aluminized steel instead of stainless steel so it's much less expensive than the regular Magnaflow cat-back systems, and we use Magnaflow components so you get great flow engineering & no loss of low-end torque, etc.. You can see that on our web site, on the last 2 pages of Complete Systems in the Exhaust section, you'll see them listed as "Troyer Performance" exhaust systems. We have them available for F-150's from 1987 on up thru 2003, Expeditions up thru 2002 F-150's, etc., just in case that might be of interest to you.

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call Mike & we'll be happy to spend some time with you going over all the exhaust choices, options & pricing, and anything else performance-related about your vehicle.

Take care & enjoy your new Flip Chip!

I got it all in yesturday, everything worked great! Noticed a little gain, mostly in shifting yesturday, really doing good today and I haven't even switched it over to the 91 octane side yet. still need to run out my tank of 87. Thanks a lot Mike!

Hi Montana98,

Great, glad to hear it got there in time for the weekend & you've got it in.

One thing to remember when you switch over top the premium gas side is that it will take a couple of tank of premium to get up to full 100% power, as there will always still be some 87 left in the tank. When the low fuel light first comes on for example, there is still a minimum of 3.5 gallons left in the 25 gallon tank.

What we generally advise doing is running the 87 octane down until the low fuel light comes on, then fill it up with the best quality premium available, and then flip the switch over to Side 2. And I'd do that for at least the first few tanks of premium fuel, meaning, letting it run down at least until the low fuel light comes on before filling up with the next tank, so you can get as much of the 87 out of there as quickly as possible. Just some general tips FYI, you may already know all this, but just in case................

Good luck & have fun!
