Hey Mike
Mike-
I have an 03 ext cab that Im thinking about doing some mod's to, Im thinking air intake, exhaust, and superchip. However Im not going to be able to do them all at once. Does it matter in what order I add these? Would I benefit from adding a chip first or last. What do you or anyone else suggest? Also is there a certain amount of time before you should start making mods to a truck, I only have a little over 1000 miles.
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith,
That is one of the most basic questions, and probably the single most important thing that owners of brand new vehicles ask, when is it safe to do performance modifications...................
When we buy new vehicles here at Performance, in many cases we're modifying them right there on the dealer's lot before we even get 'em back home, but then that's us, & we know these vehicles pretty well.
For everyone else, we recommend having anywhere from 300-500 miles on the vehicle before doing performance mods. Just enough so that you know there are no immediate problems with the vehicle that require service department attention before the vehicle can be operated normally and reliably, which very rarely happens.
There is no real "break-in" period anymore, & we have some customers who will bolt on a supercharger before they ever even start their new vehicle for the first time. I just think that it's a good idea in general for most people to have a few hundred miles on a brand new vehicle, just so the differential takes a set, the motor has been run for a while, the brake pads are bedded in, etc.
So at 1000 miles, you're ready to do whatever mods you like.
Now in terms of which should you do first, or is there any specific requirement in this regard between the three mods you mentioned (Superchip, intake or exhaust), in those three specific areas of modification you can do them in any order you like. The order of the best bang-for-the-buck is the Superchip or Micro Tuner, the intake kit, and then the cat-back exhaust. Some guys want to hear the exhaust first instead, and that's fine. Most people go by order of best bang for the buck.
There *are* some modifications where the order in which you do them *does* matter, but in these 3 areas it doesn't, you can do them in any order you prefer.
Give us a call if you'd like to go over this in more detail, etc., & good luck with your new truck!
