Do they really make a difference.

Ok.. im very very curious.. I have not noticed any change in my performance when installing this Superchip and a catback system....... where is this mysterious 30+ horsepower...
I know that I only have the 4.2l but I know that I should be able to notice 30 hp.... what gives...
I think this thing is a joke.. and I would like to honeslty know if anyone else had installed this item in vain.......
For the record.. I have cleared the old program.. I have reset it twice since installing and I do have exxon premium gas in my tank..... so we can rule those out..... and oh yea... it was installed correctly.

Exactly why I don't have one. Had one on a 1990 Chevy and
could teel no difference, except mileage went down a little.
save your money.
My truck runs better without the K&N filter as well.

I myself have Superchip in my 1997 F150 5.4L and can tell you this there is without a doubt a seat of the pants improvement with it. I currenlty am not running it due to the high gas prices here in California and I can tell the chip is not in the truck because the truck performs totally different.

thanks for the imput
I have to tell you.. that im not all that big on fake tech.. and I still will let this thing break in before I cause a stink about it.
As far as gas goes.. all major name brands of gas in each region are exactly the same.. I used to work for Mobil and can tell you that all gas in each region comes up the same pipe and the only difference are the additives... other than that... good luck.. your paying for the name.. For all i know Conoco refined this tank and Sinclair the last.. unless you buy it from the refinery.. its all blended in the pipeline... sorry
I buy exxon, because the station I get it from guarantees against excess H20.. in KC that can be a big problem..
Thanks for your input guys

I thought that gas burns at diff. BTU's? I could be wrong, I'm not a chemist. As I'm sure you know, the chip requires premium gas unless you have the flip chip. Sounds like you've done everything right...be interesting to see what others say!
Well you say it is installed correctly, but have you tried to go faster than the previous 95mph speed limiter? I can tell you that would be a good check to see if its installed correctly. Also, you should notice firmer shifts. If not, then face it, its not in there right.
With the Superchips, it can take several hundred miles for the full potential of the chip to tune the engine. Right now, your truck is probably going through the relearn process, and is detuned for now. As you put on more miles without reseting the computer, it will get stronger, you probably wont even notice the power increase. If not, then take it it out, youll feel a big power decrease.
This is the first case i have heard of the Superchips not doing an awesome job, so something has to be up...

I can tell you this as far as Gas is concerned here in Northern California we have 4 refineries that pump gas into the tanker trucks that deliver it to the local stations . Those refineries are Chevron, Shell, Texaco and Tosco, there may be one other however like RED said the main differance is who adds what additives at the fill station every gas station has diff. additves they have put into the tankers before haveing them filled up. That way when the truck is fueled up the additves mix with the gasonline. So not all gas comes from the SAME pipeline but alot of them do come form all the various suppliers in are area.

Hi Red Welcome!
Superchips/cat.backs etc...in your words "fake tech" or "joke"
I guess you havent read all the threads here?
Anyhow..dont go away. You'll get help/tech. answers. Also try to give alittle more input..ex: manual or a/t.
THERE is a difference between brands of gas. Ive posted my results along with many others who have also experimented and posted results.
I dont use our local Exxon...because i got less mpg. Also Arco with ethanol..gave less mpg.
Good luck...OT

Also you wont get 30+ HP.
I think they say "UP to 26 HP " for my 4.6l V-8....I think the average is 10%.... If you can't at least feel a big change in the way the tranny shifts, it may not be installed correctly or is bad.

Hey Red 2001Sport,
I do not know much about Superchips, and I know that more H2O is bad in gas, but can you expand a bit more on what the specific problem is in KC? Like any reasons why they may add more in KC? I live there and am interested in knowing. Thanks a lot for your help.

I put one of the major brand chips in my truck and it was a total joke, truck wouldn't run right so I repeatedly cleaned the contacts and reinstalled the chip, got to where I could do it in 10 minutes flat. The chip is out and it will never be put back in my truck.
The best mods I've found so far are Magnaflow exhaust, underdrive pullies, and a K&N filter with modified airbox. In my opinion chips aren't worth the money!!!.
Keep on truckin'

HI!... Well I have no problems with my SUPERCHIP. I knocked off 6.3 tenths in the 1/4 mile with my SUPERCHIP alone. From 16.01E.T STOCK to 15.38E.T with SUPERCHIP. I personally think that anyone that says that SUPERCHIP's chip doesn't work is a complete and utter FOOL. I've proved that it does work very well over and over again. It's also a VERY helpful product for tuning. I have like 12 custon programs built into my SUPERCHIP "FLIP-CHIP". With the mods I have, running NO chip at all would cause my truck to not even start, yet run. The best way to prove if the chip is working on your truck is to put it back in and run it for about 500 miles. Then go to the dragstrip and run 3 times. Then remove the chip and run 3 more times. Then see what the difference is in your 1/4 mile times.
