Ebay SuperChip
Ebay SuperChip
I('ve seen some really cheap prices on EBAY for SuperChips. If bought, do they need to be reprogrammed? Also, is it worth buying from EBAY? I know the old addage - you get whaat you pay for. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, Is the increases in performance (HP/Torque, etc,) worth the price? Also, how do they affect the factory warranty? I've seen a lot of adds for various performance chips and many have a tagline saying VOIDS FACTORY WARRANTY.

Personally I would NOT buy any chip from Ebay or private owner for one simple reason, you don’t know what you’re getting or what program it has in it. I am not sure what Superchips cost but I believe around $300.00. So here is how I look at it. If I bought something for say $100.00 and needed it reprogrammed what would the cost be? Worse what if it don’t even work in my application? I am out the money, have no real recourse for assistance and I could have used that $100.00 towards a Superchip.
Now, to be forward I do not yet have a Superchip so please don’t take my post as advice or recommendation for buying a Superchips. However when it does come time that I am ready to buy one I will be buying one from Mike.
Reason being, I have read many of his post which are very informative. From everything I have read in his post and others he has the best customer service anyone could wish for when buying, what I think, is a very important product.
Now, something I do not know for sure is if someone was to put a chip in that was not programmed correctly for an application if it could possible cause damage to a motor. Since I do not know that I would never consider buying “basically” a used chip.
That’s just my opinion, but if it were me I would not risk any amount of money savings chancing on having to spend a lot later to correct a wrong, or bad decision.

Like both previous posters have mentioned, you want a Superchips with an "S". If you bought it off of E-bay, odds are that it will not be for your trucks computer code. This code can be found on the door jam of the passenger side door OR on the computer itself which is behind the left-hand kick panel on 1997 to current F150's. Once bought off of E-bay, would have to get it re-burned to your trucks code should it be the wrong code. All though I have never done that particular request, I am sure that it will cost you at least $150 for it and then you still have the cost of the chip. A new chip with the EXACT programming for your truck's code could be had for a little more than the programming request plus S&H.
Personally, call Mike Troyer. He can set you up in no time and answer all of your question in a very informative way.

Hi Guy,
You never know what you're getting buying from someone on EBay. Anytime Superchips Inc. (the manufacturer) sees any Superchips represented as being new for sale on EBay, they will check that out and shut it down, as that is a violation of the dealer agreement. In short, EBay is *not* an appropriate "market" for any legitimate Superchips dealer to be using, so you will not see any legitimate dealer there long-term. Superchips Inc. does not allow Superchips to be marketed on EBay, period, and makes every effort to shut down anyone caught trying to sell new Superchips product there.
You *will* see a lot of used Superchips offered for sale there and other palces on the Internet, and that's fine for those who are willing to take the risks of buying used performance parts. The Superchips modules are pretty darned reliable, so failures are rare, making a used Superchip with the correct matching code a potential bargain provided you're willing to take the risks of buying used, meaning no warranty, no Tech Support, etc.
If you want to shop for used Superchips, you'd be much better off dong that here on F-150 Online in the Classified Ads section, lots of people offer their Superchips for sale there when they trade in vehicles or do upgrades or whatever that makes their present Superchip no longer applicable. Usually most of the ads you'll find here on F-150 Online (in the Classified Ads section) are from honest people, many of whom particpate on these message boards.
Optimizing the powertrain program is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these vehicles, and to most computer controlled vehicles. Nothing else for the same or less cost will do as much for the performance of the vehicle. However, that does not mean a chip is going to turn a 5000 lb. truck into a rocketship, it's not. It's just that the Superchip is simply the single best bang for the buck.
Spend some time reading the threads in this section of the message boards and you will quickly see just how many people rave about the Superchips tuning. In fact, all of your questions have been dealt with many times before here, so you'll want to get familiar with the easy to use search feature here to look up any info you want. Just about anything you can ask about the Superchip or about computer chips in general, and certainly all the basics like this, has been asked & answered many times before (literally hundreds and thousands of times). All of that information is readily available at the click of your mouse.
No, the Superchip does not void your warranty, by law you have the right to do anything you want to your vehicle as long as your modifications do not damage the vehicle. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the primary legislatiuon that protects all of us in this regard, which you can check out over at the SEMA web site. Try this link: http://www.sema.org/fedleg/warranty .
Feel free to give us a call to go over this in more detail, & good luck with your truck!
