Purchasing a Chip
Is there a web site where I can purchase a chip for a 2001 SuperCrew with 4.6l? I am in Germany and picking up the phone to call somebody isn't as easy an option as it is for you folks in the states since YOUR daytime is in the middle of MY nightime. I am interested in a mild chip that will offer moderate perfomance increases with better fuel milage. Thanks for the help.
Hi SilverCrew,
Yes, we can accommodate you on that. Click on the link in our signature line and it will take you to our online ordering system for the Superchip.
You can place your order there, and the only thing that will be different is that the shipping wil cost more than what you'll see there since it has to be shipped over to Europe. Just make sure you give us a good UPS shippable address, and we can get it to you OK. We'll also email you with the actual correct shipping costs before we ship, just so you can OK it for sure and know that exact cost up front, sicne our onlien ordering system only has shipping charges for USA addresses.
Bottom line, no problem, we can get this taken care of for you so you can get your Superchip over there in Germany without having to call us by phone!

Can the Super Chip be sent USPS? This is the only method of delivery to a military installation. Plus shipping costs only cost me from your business to NY, from there the military postal service takes over and it's free. Thanks. BTW do I have to order a Micro Tuner? Sounds like a great addition to the chip but is it mandatory and can it be added at a later date?
Hi SC,
Sorry, but no, we will not use anyone except UPS for overseas shipments. The problem is that the USPS *CANNOT* track any package despite their claims to the contrary, we've been thru that far too many times and they've *never* successfully tracked any package we've ever had lost thru the US Mail. It also takes forever for the USPS to pay off on the insurance, so the only way we will ship any package overseas is via UPS.
Any package we send overseas paid for by credit card has to be signed for by the individual we're shipping it to, that's the only way we can prove to the credit card providers their customer got the shipment and the only way we can protect both ourselves and the customer. And the USPS simply has no ability to track a lost package even in *this* country, let alone overseas, they simply cannot do it, so we can't use them for any overseas shipment, sorry.

Hi Nick,
Actually, I found Germany a *great* place to live, it's not a terrible hardship assignment or one where there are no amenities, etc. I spent 7 years there, from Fulda to Stuttgart & many places in between, and loved it.
We have shipped UPS to numerous servicemen overseas on base, there isn't any blanket inability of UPS to deliver to overseas American bases. Anything sent by US Mail will go thru the NY APO, that's certainly true, but UPS will deliver just like normal as long as we have a correct address. We ship to Army & Air Force officers & enlisted on a regular basis over there, and all they have to do is get their correct local ship-to address instead of giving us their mailing APO NY address.
You can also always have us ship it to a family member, as others suggested, who can then forward it on to you via the US Mail if you like, so it goes APO NY.
By the way, I hope you enjoy your time in Germany, as belvie it or not you're very lucky to be there where so much history is available just for the looking. I took in everything I could, from every castle worth seeing to all the concentration camps, Dachau, etc. Garmish, Kimsee, Bertchesgarten (sp?), BMW, Mercedes, Opel, all the great arts, crafts, antiques, the Black Forest, & everything else that is there etc., that country is absolutely steeped in rich history & beautiful places. I do hope you manage to find ways to enjoy it, it's certainly worth the effort and you'll never get another chance to see that part of the world so clearly, so easily, so cheaply, as the opportunity you have right now. I thank God every day that I was able to live there & see how people in other coutnries live, in much older countries than here in the US which is so very young as a nation, it does wonders for your perspective. It just gives you that much more appreciation for all the work, battles & sacrifice the US Armed Forces have performed & been subjected to over the past century, and just how good we have it here, as well as broadening your personal horizons beyond anything you've imagined before, to enjoy much older civilizations & ways of life.
Germany can be whatever you make of it, and from personal experience I tell you it can potentially be one of the most rewarding, memorable & important experiences of your life. I hope you are able to enjoy it as so many others of us have, & good luck!

Is it my local residing address or the Deutsch address for where my APO is locacated? Either one will not be a problem and thanks for setting me straight. I am completely enjoying myself here. There is soo much to see and do and I never have a dull moment. I will be purching from you in the very near future (tax return) and really appreciate all you assistance not only to me, but to everbody who has asked any type of question in this particular forum.
BTW the previous post was all in good fun, just trying to pull the heart strings a little. There is no way this assignment is at all difficult, just have to go about things a little differently.

Hi SilverCrew,
Thanks very much for your candid response.
I figured you were probably tugging on the ole' heartstrings there, but having been there for many years, I also know that it can be a lonely place sometimes if you're not out & active "on the economy," so I just wanted to share with you how good it can be, & what a rare opportunity you have there.
In terms of the address, it's usually the on-base street address that gets the job done.
For example, when we shipped to Kelly Barracks in Stuttgart (go Jayhawks!), the apartments that all the enlisted & officers below 0-6 rank lived in on base, the addresses were like: 6A2 Petersen Apartments, Kelly Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany, etc., etc.
You know the big aparment buildings the dependants usually live in, the ones that have 3 stairwells, 8 apartments to a stairwell, 2 on each floor, 4 floors (not counting basement & attic). The *classic* dependents housing on base in Germany, in other words.
Well, when living there, there is usually an actual name for the apartments, like on Kelly for example they're called "Petersen Apartments," and then the number, like 6A2, identifies which individual apartment. Or if someone is staying in one of the enlisted barracks buildings, or in say, the BOQ etc., there is virtually always a "normal" street address.
Now I have no idea what that kind of address is referred to us, that may be what you called the Duetsch (German) address, or it may just be referred to as the American on-base street address, but that will give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
We'll figure it out whenever you're ready, don't worry, we'll find a way to make sure it gets to you over there!
Speaking of that, just be aweare of this up front, once you install the Superchips tuning the vehicle will be able to go as fast as it's power level, weight & aerodynamic profile will allow, as the top speed limiter will in effect be removed. The factory tires are not rated for sustained triple-digits speeds (anything over about 100 mph or so), so you'd need to upgrade tires if you plan to do any Autobahn blasts to see just how fast it will go!
I mention that because that's an extremely common thing to do if you have a POV over there, is to get up on the Autobahn & top it out, so just be advised that you can't cruise at sustained speeds above about 100 mph or so on the stock factory tires.
Talk to you soon & good luck!
