I guess I should have checked out your link first. I remember judging your truck this past year!

I don't know if you remember me or not, but I'm the one with all of the piercings. I got dark hair. My Ranger is white/blue two tone with silver flames fading all the way back to the tailgate. It's a convertible.

ANYWAY, I'm sure I'll see you at the show this year! I think we are planning on September again, but we are still working out the details.

Mike: Sure is! Flea is da man!!! I met him once in my Uncle's bar in Pittsburgh when I was 15 and they were touring. He's a really down-to-earth person (relatively speaking, I mean how sane is someone when they dance around in a tube sock in front of millions of people?), really easy going.

Spingleton: I think I vaguely remember you, although it's been a while. I'm usually in the Best Buy/Fayette mall area when I'm in Lex. At any rate, shoot me an e-mail if you've got an empty weekend or something and we can shoot the ***** or something.

Hi Flea,

Cool, I thought so.

Flea especially is one serious funk monkey with plenty of spunk to spare. The funny thing about the tube sock business is that they were still so new, they only had maybe 4-6 tunes they could play for each "show" at that time, and with no more than *that* they got a nice recording contract, and the rest is history. BSSM is my fav album, & now they're back to their second guitar player now that he's clean. Great band, good players.

John Fruschate is a good guitarist, but no one can replace Hillel Slovak (may he rest in peace ). I've recently been trying to learn the solos from the song "Coffee Shop." It's a bit difficult because of the auto-wah petal that Flea used in the song. Here's a question for ya: What is Flea's real name?

Hi Flea,

Amen, Hillel was the absolute *man* for the Peppers, and it's probably a fair bet that nobody will really top his guitar work in that band, I have to agree. Not screaming leads, but he was extremely melodic, and they were beautifully fragile melodies, held together only barely by the funk.

The cat they have now was their 2nd player that replaced Hillel, but who they had to let go back when his skag use just got completely out of hand, they didn't think he'd ever be saved. Then the rest of them finally cleaned up, and then their 2nd guitarist later cleaned up, and they all got back together. The only thing that could be better would be if Hillel had made it, absolutely. But at least they have a player I can accept, whereas I didn't like the other cats they had before.

As far as all the trivia, I couldn't begin to tell you what Flea's real name is, I don't remember. I do remember Anthony, and Hillel, and that's about it for any of their real names. I couldn't care less about the names, it's the raw ***** out funk-rock that gets me.

Heck, I don't even remember what the last album Hillel was on, was it BSSM, maybe?

Hillel's last album with the 'Peppers was in 1989 Mother's Milk. Later, he returned to tour with them the year before he died.

Flea's real name is Michael Peter Balzary.

I've been trying to find their pre-1991 albums; I've had no luck... it seems that no one likes their old stuff anymore... so I've resorted to using the music industry against them... I've had to download their stuff off of KazaA.

Ahh, OK, well that's further back than I thought, shows you how much I'm not a trivia buff, I don't even remember what year Hillel passed.

At any rate, great band & they're doing good work again.

Good luck finding their pre-'91 stuff!

And you're complaining?

I did a 500 mile round trip Saturday to go pick up my boat. I topped it off on Friday night at about $36. Then on Saturday, I spend another $71 although I pulled up to the house with a full tank. All at $1.78 for 93 octane. (US $$)

PS. I averaged 12.7 MPG on paper and 13 on overhead running the speed limit, fighting 30+ MPH wind gusts on the return with right at 7100# behind me. For the first 256 miles while not loaded I got 18.1 on the overhead and 18.6 on paper.

Oh wait, this wasn't a MPG thread (I do run a standard program Superchips though)

Hi Family Ride,

Nice to see you again, as always!

Your Expy is one we talk about a bit from time to time, along with Conocoan & a few others, as you've provided a lot of good data on before & after mpg with the Superchips tuning, both with and without towing a large load.

Your configuration has always done well mileage-wise, especially in response to the Superchips tuning, particularly when you're towing. The numbers & mpg comparisons you've posted in the past have been very interesting, & thanks for all that effort you put into documenting all of that, by the way. Even now, to be able to get almost 13 mpg fighting the wind under the conditions you described while towing 7000+ lbs. out back, is nothing less than excellent.

The price you're paying for 93 octane is about what we've got here now. We had been averaging anywhere from $1.55-$1.59 for 93, and then over the past couple of months it's crept up about 15-20 cents per gallon across the board. So it's pretty common here to be paying $1.75-$1.80 a gallon for the good stuff, where we've traditionally had relatively low gas prices.

Thanks for your post & have fun with the boat when the weather permits!
