Whats best to wash new truck with?
 

What in y'alls opinion is best to wash a new truck with. I have always used a soft mitt to wash it with but I hear great things about horse hair brushes. They are expensive though and wonder how complete a brus will clean. I want something that will not scratch. I have always used a mitt and after every time I wash a section I dunk it in wash water and really shake it around. If it's really dirty I rinse it before I put it back in. Whats y'alls experience and opinions?

I use the mitt that's safe for clear coats (it says so on the package).

I use one of those clear coat-safe mitts also...usually 100% cotton. Dry with 100% white towels. Some people use blowers so they don't have to touch the surface at all.

Zaino makes a wash. I use it and love it. Their polishes are the best also.

So many mods, so little cash! On the up side, no wife to create a filibuster.

I'd use water https://www.f150online.com/f150board/wink.gif air dry, but water spots doesnt bother me.

There was another thread like this asking the same question awhile back. I use two buckets to wash my baby with. One with the soapy stuff. One with clear water. After picking up soap and cleaning a small section, I rinse in the bucket of clear water. That way, I minimize the chance of getting any grit back on the clear coat. I use very little car wash soap (never detergent). I use a diaper to wash with. It's soft enough for my real baby's butt, so it's plenty soft enough for my street baby. I also apply and buff out my truck with diapers. My product of choice is the Blitz Wax, but there's plenty other great wax choices. I also use a clay bar as necessary to keep the clearcoat grit-free. I've got a paint job so wet-looking, that if you blow on my hood, you'll make ripples!!

i use trutle wax car wash and a new sponge.i buy 20 packs of sponges and throw them away after wash jobs and meguiar bros. wax..this is the greatest stuff ever

I am looking for any black F150 owners out there who have achieved the wetest, deepest shines on their black beauties. My screw should be in soon and I want to be able to give it the deepest richest shine and the best place to get that info is here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone ever tried that stuff they advertise on TV called DuraShine, made by DuraLube?Thanks

I have a 2000 F150 Lariat Supercab(Black). I use the TurtleWax (black) with a soft cloth.

I use a brush with a long handle screwed into it. Makes washing go a lot faster and I don't have to stand on a ladder to get the roof cleaned. Almost no chance of grit getting embedded in a bristle brush like it can when using a mitt or sponge.

I don't know the brand name, but I got it from a local cleaning supply house. It was made especially for washing cars and came from Germany.

Thanks for the info guys. Most everything that I have read on this site seems to lean towards Zaino products. I'll have to give them a try. Went to their website and found it was available through Crown Auto Emporium Ltd. in Guelph ON.(not that far away). Thanks again for the replies.

Someone was asking about making black shine:

I polished my '99 F150 just today with Zymol. Heard somewhere that it was consumer report's overall best pick for auto polish.

Was easy to apply and remove, and I'm impressed with how well it did on my black paint. I don't recall it looking as good brand new.

I've always used NEW FINISH wax

It's in an orange bottle. Consumer reports always rates it the best.

It lasts a full year , apply a second coat about a month after the first.

Another good tip,

After waxing your truck, take a fine mist bottle and lightly mist small sections with water, then buff.

Gets a very wet looking shine.

What it does is it removes any left over dust from the wax.

you guys all make me proud. Finishing is my business, e-coat/powder & automotive urethanes w/clearcoats. I have spent years in the spray booth & in the lab documenting, researching & developing procedures to ensure optimal finish quality, studies on DOI, orange peel, gloss, film thickness & overall defect reductions. It's so nice to see intelligent people out there caring after the finishes that big industries have worked so hard to develop into the best product they can provide for the customer. Not once did I hear or read anything on this post about "magical scratch remover" or any of that nonsense. You guys are alright.
