How's this look?
I personally never waxed my truck, and I'd like to learn how to detail it that way I can appreciate something that I did. So, I have a few things I selected from the Meguiar's site, tell me what I need and don't need, because I was just selecting. I have swirls on the truck, probably from using the brush at the public wash rack. So, here is the list.
(1) Smooth Surface Clay Kit (1) Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Condition (64oz) (1) Cleaner Wax - Paste (7) Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels (3 pack) (1) Even Coat Microfiber Applicator Pads (1) Meguiar's Supreme Shine Protectant (1) Microfiber Wash Mitt (3) Water Magnest Microfiber Drying Towl --- Other: (2) 5lb buckets (1) Grit Guard - for plain water bucket --- What would be good for my carpet, and cloth seats? How about Glass? Also, what is a good time to wash the truck? My friend use to wake up around 6am-8am before the sun would rise basically. |
Definitely get more MF towels. You can never have too much. SwirlX might not remove all of the swirls by hand I still had swirls after I used it, but there was an improvement. Might need more applicator pads. I like to have a dedicated one per product (same with MF).
Wash --> clay --> SwirlX --> wax. Always wash in the shade. Wait for some of the pros to chime in :p |
Have you read the detailing sticky yet?

Wash --> Clay --> SwirlX --> Cleaner Wax --> Carnauba wax = 10 Hours of work, but one hell of a nice clean truck. :rocker: (if you have a dark truck, you could ad another step. But thats more work.) Always Wash AND Wax in the shade. When doing the hood and fenders, try and let the motor be cool. I never get the same results when the motor is hot. And I have always sworn by Meguires Products. They are great products, with a reasonable price! |

And if you're not going to use a buffer (Porter Cable), there is no point in even using the SwirlX. Speaking of which, there are many better swirl removers than SwirlX. |
I'm just looking for a nice 1-3hr detail. I don't have time to waste 10hrs on the truck, ha.

For a truck you always need plenty of microfiber towels and a few extra application pads. AND.... http://olddogg.homestead.com/F150/postpics.gif |
There was a thunderstorm last night, that should
keep the pollen down a bit, right? But, I won't be able to do a full detail with this nice ticket I bought. |
Updated the list, once I know if this is good to go, I'm going to order it so I can wash the truck over the weekend.

you can never have to many MF towels

I understand that. Figured I'll use like 2-3 for waxing, 2-3 for inside cleaning, and the rest for polishing, drying vehicle. Does that list look good enough? Also, should I get two 5lb buckets and a grit guard? Also, what is good for the carpet, cloth seats and glass?

Carpet- Folex + Shop vac (Lowes/HD/ not sure on Walmart)
Glass - Sprayway (found at Walmart in a tall white/blue can) + glass towels They have 5 gal buckets at HD for like 2 bucks, though I don't know if a grit guard would fit in it (as some buckets taper slightly). |
I wouldn't waste a nice microfiber on inside cleaning. I just get the bulk cheap microfiber from Costco for that.
