Has anybody gotten this on their car or truck? What did you think of it? I would like to get protection like this for my new car. I've heard bad things about car bras which don't interest me,, soo... I think the 3M Film might suit me. Any opinions? |
Dzervit has it on his truck. Do a search on 3M in either general or the F150 section. It looks good and barley noticable......
|
It rocks. Can you see it? Covers the painted bumper, headlamps, hood & a bit of the fenders.

Also have it on the BMW... it's really usefull on it since it's slung low to the ground and gets all the rocks!
|
I only saw it in the really upclose pic (the middle one). Did you get your WHOLE hood done or just the front of it?
How much did it cost for you? |
No, they usually only cover the first 3rd of the hood, right where all the rocks hit. Prices can vary greatly, I've heard as low as $200 and high as $600... basically call around.
|
Can local body shops put it on, if they just order the 3M film? (instead of going to an 'authorized 3M dealer')?
|
Anyone can buy the stuff and put it on... you can even buy pre-cut kits to match your car. Easy as a-b-c! Start with google to get places to buy... then find a willing installer.
|
Can I purchase Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film directly from 3M? A. 3M sells larger rolls of film to selected 3M Authorized Distributors and Converters and not to end consumers. 3M does not manufacture vehicle-specific film kits nor does 3M install kits on consumer vehicles. There are hundreds of professional installers throughout the United States that sell film kits who also apply it to your vehicle. Click on "Where to Buy" in the "Consumer" section of this website to search by the city and state to find the nearest professional installer(s). |
My parents old Motorhome and Grandparents motorhome both had/have the 3mp protective paint on them. Washing bugs off after a 3,000 mile drive is a piece of cake, even when baked on in 100* temps. I would recomend it if you want to protect the front of your car. My parents first motorhome didn't have any on it, and one trip to Alaska and back (15,000 miles) got a few rockchips in the front. The next motorhome with the 3m stuff didn't get a single rock chip in its 20k miles. And no one wants to repaint a $10,000 paint option...

Had it applied to the wife's new '05 Escape and I love it so far! The last time I washed the vehicle, I noticed a small scuff on the film that was obviously caused by a flying rock, so it has already saved at least one paint chip along the leading edge of the hood!
I had it installed (leading edge of the hood and front fenders, headlamps, and foglamps) by the same guy that did my window tinting -- cost me $250.00 for the Escape. I watched the guy put it on, and it looked so easy that I would probably be inclined to apply it myself to my next vehicle, provided if I can get the material alone for far less money than the install. The pieces came pre-cut in a kit, and the installer just applied it with some soapy water and a small plastic squeegee. There didn't seem to be much to the install -- just position the film and squeegee out the excess water! The material is very hard to see unless you know it is there -- definitely less obtrusive than the factory bug deflector, which was my "Plan B" if I didn't go with the film..... |
My buddy installs it at his shop.. www.XXTUNING.com They have it as ROK BLOCK...I wouldn't really try it yourself it takes ALOT of patience if you have a very curvy vehicle, seen it installed a bunch of times..They serv as an installer for all the car dealers in the area...Really nice stuff..I would definately get it if I had a new vehicle..:rocker:

I went onto UltraShield's website, http://www.ultrashieldusa.com/ and they had their pricing info there.
For the hood, fenders and front bumper, it comes out to $380  None of the other sites listed much about 3M, so I might have to make some telephone calls. :) How long MAX do you think I should wait before getting the 3M applied? I was thinking, not this weekend, but next sounds okay. |
