Question Peragon bed cover

Does anyone have experience with, or seen in person, a Peragon bed cover? (I asked this question in a different forum and got 0 replies.)
It seems like a decent product, but it is pricey. I would love to hear from someone who has independent knowledge of how well it holds up.

I purchased one about 2 years ago, within about 6 months the thing was leaking water like crazy. I called up the company and they said that it was not supposed to stop all the water just some. He then said to ship it back and they would look at it. So I did and when I got it back I was charged for shipping and they never even fixed it. You might as well not even have a cover at all, your stuff will get just as wet as it would if you had a peragon. Since then it has been sitting boxed up in my garage.

I would NOT recommend them to anyone. There are a couple of people on this forum that swear by them instead of swearing at them like everyone else. Personally I think they either own, work for, or somehow are connected to peragon.

On my previous truck a 96 f150 I had an Aerocover made by ruggedliner and that one worked like a charm. It was easy to remove and repelled ALL water. I am still kicking myself for not going with another one. I thought that the peragon cover was going to be superior to the aerocover plus it looked pretty cool. Boy was I wrong. I could have bought about 2 aerocovers for the price of one peragon. I will never make that mistake again. I will definitely be looking for an aerocover when I upgrade to the new 2004 model in a couple of years. Currently I am not using anything at all and I have about the same water protection as the peragon cover.

You would be better off I think buying something like the advance cover, pace edwards, aerocover, etc. anything but the peragon.

The only good thing about the peragon was the locking system, that I will have to give them.

Hope this helps

Thanks

My name is Heath Copp, President of Peragon. I am not here to promote our product in any way, simply to reply with some balance to the post above.

First, we do not allow anyone from our company to promote our products under false pretense on web forums. That would hurt the integrity of the forum community and we respect that. If it is a Peragon post, we identify ourselves as I have here.

Second, there is no such thing as a waterproof retractable cover. We are point-blank honest about that on our web site. Some people expect a waterproof retractable cover, that is simply unrealistic. Retractable covers are designed to provide security, hauling flexibility and reasonable protection from the elements. If you want a waterproof cover, we flat out tell you on our web site not to buy our product. If you want waterproof, buy a one piece fiberglass lid. You eliminate your ability to haul larger cargo without a lot of hassle, but you'll keep all the rain out. It comes down to how you use your truck. No single bed cover is perfect for everyone. We like to think ours is perfect for more people than it isn't!

We're a proud member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau and have thousands of happy customers. Unfortunately, some customers have unrealistic expectations and go on a rampage when they are not met. After almost six years in business, we've learned you can't make everyone happy, but we sure do try.

The post above from Linus is a customer of ours who purchased a cover, used it and then demanded a full refund with shipping both ways. Our return policy allows for the return of products less a restocking fee and the customer is responsible for the shipping costs. That wasn't acceptable to Mike, so he threatened that unless we provided a full refund of his purchase price, he would smear our company and our product in any way he could. When we declined to be blackmailed, he started posting false and libelous information about us on web forums. The site linked above is nothing more than a vendetta. The photos are staged. Take for example the picture of how much space the cover takes up when folded - he shows a tape measure of over 10" - and then claims we're lying when we claim 6" folded room. If you look at the cover - it is not folded all the way! He carefully left the panels with about a 1" gap between them to take up more room. Also, the tape measure is hooked over the front of the frame, which wraps over the bed and takes up no room from the bed length. The rest of his site is just as much rubbish.

A fact of irony, the posts Mike has made all over the web have, in fact, helped us! Our web traffic has never been higher and many people who never would have heard of us otherwise, have! It doesn't take much to see through the thinly veiled fabrications in Mike's efforts.

I would encourage anyone interested to contact us and we'll take you through Mike's site point by point to address his claims.

Toll Free - (877) 473-7246

Thank you!

Peragon Bed Cover

Heath wrote: "Our return policy allows for the return of products less a restocking fee and the customer is responsible for the shipping costs." If that were true I would have sent it back that way. The truth is once you cut the plastic band off the cover it's "used" according to Heath, and they will not allow "used" covers to be returned. The only way you could send one back is if you don't unpack it when you get it.

Read Peragons return policy for yourself at: http://www.geocities.com/peragon_cov...ew/return.html

My father-in-law owns a Peregon bed cover...it's been on his farm-truck for
over a year now, and he loves it. It serves it's purpose very well; it's
quiet, attractive, and well-engineered.

"Linus's" major complaint seems to stem from the fact that you tried installing
a precision engineered product on an already beat up truck. If you're bed
was bent and abused already, it's your own fault that it didn't work.

Installation on a truck-bed that's in good shape was EASY. I'm sorry it
was so difficult for you. Your complaint that you needed an extra socket
to do the job? Excuse me...but boo frickity hoo. When you're working on a
truck you better have some tools.

And I can attest that the images and scenarios on the link are staged and grossly
exagerated. It opens and closes very well.

One more thing - complaining about terms and conditions that you agreed to
at the time of purchase is absolutely silly. I work in the airline
industry, and I hear cry-baby-sob-stories all day long about how I should
waive change fees for this and that. Guess what - you agreed to it when
you purchased - it's YOUR responsibility.

Grow up. Go cry somewhere else.

My .02

I purchased one of these covers early this summer (ordered in the spring, but there was a long back order apparently). I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed. I am no where near as ticked as some of the others that have posted. But, the cover does have some short comings that I wasn't aware of when purchasing. Like has been said, there is no perfect cover for every use... so be very clear on what is most important to you. I had the OEM vinyl cover before and wanted a cover that I could lock. I was looking hard at the retractable (rolling) covers before seeing the web site on this cover (use the bed too much for solid fiberglass covers).

The good:
It is lockable (not bullet proof, but will stop petty punks)
Fairly easy to roll back (not as easy as I had hoped... see the bad)
Fairly easy to remove the cover (read a descriptive review that carries on quite a bit about removal, but I can do it myself without nearly trouble found in that review)
Holds out enough weather for me (water gets in, but it is not much and has not been a problem for me)

The bad:
The track system does take up more space than I believed it would when ordering
Lose more use of the front of the bed than I was aware of (need to leave a lot of space for the panels to travel)
Difficult to get started open (easiest with 2 people - very easy once started)
Not lockable at different points of open (thought it was going to be, but can not remember if it was claimed in official web site. Wish it could have some hard stops at partial open points, but it will always want to open completely unless fully closed)
Squeeks and rattles (the squeeks have gone away, but I had to line the track to keep the rollers from rattling)

Overall the cover does what I need it to, cheaper and arguably better than many others. However, I will be digging deeper the next time before ordering another cover. My advice would be to find 1 installed in your area and ask to take a look at it. I would bet that someone in your area has 1. I am in West Michigan, and would be happy to let you take a look if you are near by.

I was surfing the net looking for any info where ANYBODY had any success with Peragon warranty..... I saw this post and had to register to tell my story.

I have had the cover for almost 1 year. For the last 3&1/2 months the cover has been unusable due to the front panel cracking away from the second.

Many, many, many calls to peragon( over 6). Not one person called me back. Finally I called and left a message saying I had a fleet of trucks and wanted to purchase covers for them. I got a call back that day!

The sales rep was nice and I apologized for lying, but I felt I had no other course as they simply would not reply to me. She said no problem and said that she would take care of the problem by filling out the required paperwork and submit to warranty.
Oh.... It would be 4-6 weeks for my parts as they are so bogged down with orders.

I have since received the two front panels. I started to replace them this morning and noticed that the other panels have cracks in the same places = too small of a radius in the corners of the panel attach points.

I tried calling peragon. SIGH.... no answer, left a message. Trying to figure what I will leave on their machine to get them to call me.

Chalk me up as one who regrets his purchase. I could deal with the water coming thru (diff between cover and no cover is negligible), I could deal with crawling up in the bed when items slid forward so I could open , I could deal with the fact the cover is open or closed (no in between as advertised unless you tie the rope somewhere), but this is it. I can't deal with the bloody thing cracking at less than a year and absolutely horrible customer service from peragon.

If anyone has had any success with their cust serv, please pass on some tips, or if anyone near Wichita KS is interested in a slighlty used cover....

Ol digger with no bedcover

Thanks to all

You have made my descision very easy. Linus great job showing the cover to be low quality. When someone takes that amount of time to complain, I begin to wonder about the product. Maybe in the future the company should eat the cost of leaving behind a happy customer.

A long-time installer warned me about the folding type covers (e.g. Peragon). He warned me they all leak and produce lot's of customer complaints. He steered me to the new molded Undercover www.undercoverinfo.com

These are hi-tech molded ABS and one-half the weight of fiberglass. They are watertight and remove in 60 seconds to hang on the garage wall. I'm pleased with the look and performance of mine on my '06 KR.

Undercover is an AWESOME cover. We have sold and both installed and shipped hundreds of them of the past few years.

I will however disagree that ALL folding type covers leak. We also sell and install Fold-A-Cover and have had absolutely no leak issues with them. Every customer has been more than happy. And for people who need access to their bed within a few minutes notice and can't take a cover off its a great solution...

I bought my Undercover from a Pickups Plus location nearby for $575.00 + tax installed. You might check and see if there is one near you. I love my Undercover. It is one of the best products I have purchased for my truck.
