2011 Ford F-150 XL Long Bed
I've been told the only shells that will match up with my bed are Ford LB from 2009-2014. True?
Are there crossover charts out there? |

Thanks, but I've already done the research you suggest. My local dealer wants about $2,050 for a new 180.
So I'm trying to match up used shells but just want to see if what they told me was correct - that I'm limited to 5 years worth of long bed Fords and no other. Currently have my eyes on a used one they're asking $300 for. Here's the LEER chart I posted on another thread. http://raincap.com/wp-content/upload...Chart-2014.pdf |
I believe that as the model years change, and the vehicle changes, the shells have to change with them. Very minor differences. But different enough that you can't take a camper shell from from another make, model, or generation of production, and use it. You have to have a shell made for your truck.

I remember back in the day, all truck boxes were practically the same LxWxH, so you could put anything on there. Now it's a whole 'nother story.

The other issue is the stupidity of Ford to make a curved tailgate on the 09-14's so the middle of the bed is longer than the sides. And have dealers tell people nothing else will fit.
I just bought a used ARE shell that didn't even have the curved gasket on the back door. Gaps on the sides between the tailgate and the door. LEER dealer says he sells the gaskets for $25, but I'm sure I can find something cheaper. I'm in a major city, not the boondocks. So I bought this for $225 instead of a new LEER for $2,050. https://classifieds.ksl.com/listing/53378362 |
It's just as disappointing when they change the wheel specs with different thread pitch, center bore diameter, pitch circle diameter, and backspace. Whatever happened to the old days where you could swap different wheels and tires around? Now, every vehicle is different, and aftermarket wheels are generic fit. Some aftermarket wheels have 2 sets of holes to make them work for more than one car.
