ARE Cap Color Match??

Really?

After ordering an ARE Z Cap for my 2011 Ford F150 Candy Red Metallic (U6 color code) a month and a half ago (Cap was supposed to be delivered Feb 14 even before the truck arrived) my dealer calls me and says ARE wants me to ship my fuel door cause ARE is having issues matching to U6.

This wouldn’t be too big of an issue except except the 09+ F150s have a cap less fuel system and without door road debris will settle in the fuel tube.

I'm all for getting the right color, but what happened to duplicolor? Heck I have an email from their service department stating all the 2011 colors were loaded in the systems and I could order before the truck arrived without issue.

I guess they have had a few U6 sent back and are trying to figure out what is going on.

Anyway just had to vent, I prefer ARE over LEER but might have to switch. I'm going to try and give ARE a call directly, and see if we can coem to a workabel solution.

A.R.E's Response:

I want to apologize for the issue with the paint match and gas door. Unfortunately U6 is one of the paint codes that is very difficult to match. The only way we can count on getting a close match is to scan a part of the truck, and the gas cap is the easiest way to do this. This is a standard way of matching a cap to the truck (especially the U6 code) in our industry. Many times the A.R.E. Dealer will loan you an aftermarket gas door to keep the elements out of your fuel pipe while we have the door. We know it is not ideal, but it is well worth the few weeks to get the good paint match on the cap.

Yeah, I'm gonna look at getting the locking cap from the dealer. That should keep the crap out of the fill tube. I may switch Cap dealers though as it shouldn't of took a month ( two weeks after the cap was susposed to be delivered ) for them to realize there was an issue at the factory with the order. Had I not called last week I don't they would have even realized it, so unless I can squeeze more off the price I'll reorder through another dealer, but still gonna stick with ARE.

I don't care if there is an issue just let me know what's going on, and keep me updated and i'm happy. ARE responded in 10 minutes, and their response clearly explained the issue.

What cap and options did you order? I've been debating between a Leer and ARE. The Leer dealer is local here and I've buy truck accessories from him on a regular basis. The ARE dealer is about 30 miles away. Having got a quote on either yet.
