To Tonneau or not ?
I have been looking at Tonneau covers for awhile now,the problem I have is that I still want to have a truck to use when needed.So do you go with a roil up one are a hard one.The vinyl look good , but no security , and with only 6'.5" bed the metal one well they take up to much room when rolled up ,and the hard one are cool ,cuz they can match your color, the only draw back with them is they are heavy to remove ,and with my girlfriend informing me that she to short and with my attitude that there no way she wants to go there.Anyway I have found they make a plastic one called Undercover and only weight 58 pound and come with wall hanger for storage,and with it being black plastic you don't have to worry about the paint being scratch .Anyway been kicking it around for awhile now just wondering what is ever body take on these or any other ones that might be out there .Thanks

I just got the undercover a few weeks ago and I have to say I am very impressed with it. It looks great, lightweight, and lockable. I was like you, I needed something to keep luggage dry on trips, but wanted something that I could take on and off by myself. I looked and priced nearly every cover out there for almost a year before deciding on the undercover. Trust me you won't be disappointed.
I had an undercover on my Ram, it was nice. It is fairly easy to remove when you need to use the bed. Lightweight but still kind of bulky for just one person to remove by themselves. A roll up cover is easier.
I bought it local. It was $650 and they installed it in about 45 min. That was the other thing that sold me on it as at that price it was $400 cheaper than the fiberglass ones and only a couple hundred more than the roll up ones.

Wow, that is higher. Have you shopped around and other dealers in your area? If the $653 includes shipping I would probably go that route (if you handy with tools). It's not that hard to put on, it simply bolts under the rail cap with clamps (no drilling). Also, the place that put mine on gave me good advice on the tailgate seal. He said he could sell me the tailgate seal ($29.95) or I could just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a roll of automotive weather stripping ($7.86) and it would be the same. He showed me the seal he had and sure enough it was the same thing at Lowe's. Took me 5 min to put on. He said normal rain you wouldn't need the tailgate seal, but he said if you was out driving in a down pour and went through standing water it might spash up through the bottom of the tailgate. I figured $8 bucks was a good insurance policy since we would be traveling alot with luggage in the back and didn't want to take that chance.

There are some advantages and disadvantages either way. The Undercover can be removed in seconds and then you're back to an open truck again, but if your already at the store then it's too late for that. If you have a soft tonneau, and your already at the store, then you just roll it back. If you have a cap your not going to remove it for one quick trip.
The Undercover will be the most effective option for keeping water out, and the strongest, but you had better keep it latched or on windy days or it will blow open.
They made some improvements on the UnderCover. now you can latch it closed without locking it, and it comes with a small LCD light.

The disadvantages are the height limitations. If you have a cap, you can pack a lot more stuff in the back.

My truck had an Undercover on it when I bought it. Big problem that I have with it is that in the winter you can basically forget about locking it. The locks on mine have consistently frozen for the last 2 years. It's gotten to a point where I don't lock it in the winter and keep a pair of Channelocks in the cab to turn the cylinders because if it's fairly cold and snowy you can't turn them at all. We get a lot of snow in in NW PA though...
Truck Covers USA. They claim their cover can support 500 pounds, and there's no way you'll be cutting through this cover!

I contacted them about how the cover bows when someone stands on it and they assured me that it does not, in any way, damage the cover. They said they stand on the covers at shows for hours at a time and the covers just spring right back to their normal shape.
