WTF is with 2x4's supporting beds?

I work at drive-thru at Wendy's and I see pickups come through all the time with 2x4's pushed against the walls of their beds. WTF is with this? I thought it was to hold it together but recently I've seen some new trucks (few '07 GMC's and a couple F-150's) with this. I'm confused?

Wow, remind me to never come through your drive-thru with 'questionable' items in my bed.

I use 2x6's from time to time to keep things situated in the bed, or to give me an extra place to secure things (do you know how many D-ring tie down hoops you can install on a 2x6? ).

Wow! That has to be the funniest thing I have read!! You thought the boards were to keep the bed sides held up?!?!? Now I know why you work the drive-thru at Wendy's.

I use a 1X6 dropped into the slot built into the side of the bed to keep tools from sliding forward where I can't reach them. Take a good hard look at the bed of your truck and you will see the slots for sliding a board down, or maybe laying one across to help hold a sheet of plywood.

Amazing as it may seem, Ford sells alot of work trucks out there that are actually designed pretty well for the working man.

That's mean but funny as hell. When I read the title, I thought he was talking about guys that run home made body lifts out of 2x4s and hockey pucks.

I've had two 2x6's stacked back there for nine years.
Makes a nice 11 inch wall for groceries.
I didn't notice how bad they were split til I looked at the pic.

The bottom one is drilled to hold three bike-tites on each side so bikes can be loaded on on either depending on the situation.

When I go camping the gear goes on the cab side of the wall and I load up firewood on the tailgate side. I always bring more than I can burn and leave the rest for the next guy.
They boards weren't even pressure treated but, I've stained them a few times over the years with whatevers left over from various projects.

Funny...yes. But give the dude a break. He's sixteen years old. He may own two or three Wendys franchises by the time he's my age.

But Raptor my friend, you will not be an automotive design engineer. I'm pretty certain of that.
