I've got an idea....
I am looking for opinions on an idea I have. I have bad knees and I have trouble crawling up in my bed sometimes because the ridges in the bed play havoc on my knees. Well actually any hard surface does but that is not the point. I am going to do the Herculiner on my truck in a few weeks and wonder if I could buy maybe an extra quart or two and fill in the ridges to make the bottom of the bed completely level. Not to mention a little softer and easier on the knees. Then I would apply the rest of Herculiner over the rest of the bed. Does anybody think this would work? I really really like the Bedrug products but I don't have that kind of money to spend. I think I could get away with this for a $150 or so. Please give me your thoughts on this idea. Thanks, Justin.

blueox,
something i did was to add a rubber mat on top of my bedliner. this has made the bed very soft on my kids and dog and helps to keep things from sliding. you can usually pick these mats up cheap, used. hope this helps, Rich.

Thanks hikerrich,
I have thought about that too. I actually had one in my Ranger a few years ago and it served its purpose and I may still go with that after I do the Herculiner to add a little more cushion. I was just wondering how hard it would be to level it all out with the bedliner. I think over all it would be a cool and useful mod. If anyone has installed the Herculiner, I would like their opinions on this.

Hi Blue,
I've not seen someone try to fill in the ribs with that product but I'm real sure it would take more than a extra quart or two to do the job.Have you thought about drying time puting it on that thick? Maybe if you filled the valleys w/something first and then put the liner over the top of that it might work better.Just an idea, good luck.

I think Rhino hit this one on the head. I would go down to Home Depot and pick up some wood for the grooves. At the moment the master carpenter that I am NOT cannot remember the name of the wood, but you are looking for the straping pieces that you affix panneling to. The stuff is 1/2" thick by about 1" wide. Usually cheap pine. That should fit between the bed grooves.
Or..... I have a bed mat from Ford (bought from dealer when new, has Ford P/N inked on it). It is foam rubber as opposed to thick solid rubber. It cushions a little better and has a perfect fit for your bed (its OEM)
Hope this helps...
