Done. Thanks for the writeup, sharing with the members.

Nice job and nice truck. I would have loved to had a truck like yours at 17. I was rockin a lowered Datsun 510 at that age.

Talking Thanks for the info...

I have heard that the spark plugs are tricky and that it costs an arm/leg at the dealers. Now that I have read all this, I will be attempting myself (female, hehehe) with boyfriend at the ready. I guess that I can assume that the dealership did not change my spark plugs when I totaled my truck? I'm pretty sure that they chaged the oil since it was leaking out of the engine after the accident but see no reson why they would give themselves extra work to change the spark plugs. I don't een want to bother asking them. Won't be returning to them again. Back to self-maintenance.

Ok I have an 08 with the 4.6 but only 18k miles would it be a good idea to swap the plugs now before 60k miles worth of carbon build up with the newer style plugs?? Or would the truck have the newer style plugs in it from the factory??

Small Victories....

Decided to go ahead and change my plugs after reading Lifted5.4Lariats write-up. (Lifted - send me your paypal address, if you have one)

05 F150 XLT 4x4 5.4L 102,242 miles

I followed his exact instructions. The only variance is that I used sea-foam deep creep on the plugs.

I ended up breaking 1 plug, but I can blame that entirely on trying to speed up after the first 2 came out so easily.

I slowed back down after that, and had no issues.

Will print this thread for future reference. You pretty much followed the TSB from Ford, except they call for doing it on a cold motor. Glad none of them broke on ya. Way to save some money by DIY. Beautiful truck!

Finally got a chance to change the plugs on my 04. Pretty much followed this writeup step by step, with the exception of using Sea Foam and I did the work on a cold engine per the TSB. No plugs broke. The only hiccup was that a pebble had fallen into the space between the hex of the spark plug and the wall surrounding it so I couldn't get my socket on. It took me longer to get the pebble out than actually changing the plugs.

I purchased the Lisle tool just in case but ended up not needing it. Good thing, too.

Thanks OP for the writeup.

All; did my plugs, fuel filter, oil and a few other things today; in short I've browsed several articles throughout the site prior to doing the work. I purchased the sparkplug removal kit in the event something went wrong. Anyway simply wanted to thank everyone for they're help/writeups... lots of info out there but all worked out for me with no issues...

Special thanks to LWoodard on the board; he's also posted some helpful architles

This is exactly what I was thinking!

Most 17 YO's have a ***tbox.
You have a wicked nice, $40K truck....I'm jealous!
For the record, I had a 66 GTO when I was your age,& yes it needed a lot of work.
I know, I know....I should have kept it!
Good Post.

You'll do just fine just make sure you have time/light and all the right tools including the spark plug removal tool.

I'll be selling mine which is brand new... ;-). Let the Force be with you

I was able to get out 4 of my 8 plugs so far in my 06. But the plugs that are in there are Autolite HT1's. 40k miles on them. This guide has worked well for me so far. Going to try the remaining 4 tomorrow evening.
