Grille Removal(2007)-Install Hella Grille with Lights

I purchased the hella grille advertised on this site. Removing the factory grille isnt too difficult.
Tools needed: 10mm socket. extension, ratchet, small screwdriver.
1. Open hood.
2. There are 6 10mm bolts across the top underneeth the hood.

There is a bracket on each side of the grille with two 10mm bolts in each.

3. Remove the bolts from the brackets first. Remove the 6 nuts across the top. Now the grille is ready to remove.
4. The new hella grille comes with a surround that is shiny plastic. I wanted to use my factory surround. This is the tedious part. Using a small screwdriver pry at each tab to get it to unlock. Dont break the backer tab that is part of the factory grill, unless you dont ever want to use it.

5. Finished surround

As for the wiring. The package comes with a harness that has relays. They suggested powering the relay with the high beams. I decided I wanted a dedicated switch inside the cab. I ran the harness to the lights and battery as suggested. I then got a rocker switch from the parts store. I fed the relay 12 volts from the hu power. Since this only sends signal to the relay and is a very small load to power the relay it wont matter where the ignition comes from. I did put an inline 10 amp fuse. When the rocker switch is on, it powers relay, which in turn closes the circuit from the leads connected to the battery and allows the lights to activate..
Its a decent product. I purchased it from summit racing.

Nice looking rig. I mounted mine first with the black surround but didn't like it, then switched to the factory surround. Not realizing some people want the FX4 grills, I snapped the tabs to remove it. If you have Hella/blacked out heads and used the black surround it might look cool on the right color truck. I wired mine to the high beams but plan on putting a switch inside sooner or later. I couldn't believe how much the Xenon model is. Althought it really doesn't need it, you could buy a cheaper xenon kit to convert it.

Thanks. Summits price on the kit is nearly half of everywhere else online.
