How To: Change out the red blinking LED bulb on the dash. 04-08 model truck's.

I tried posting this in the How to section but I guess a moderator has to move it their themselve's. First you'll need to remove the cover from the dash I used a knife and popped the cover off. It's not very hard to remove it'll just pop off with a little bit of pressure.

After you have removed the cover you'll see the bracket that hold's the bulb in place has two 7mm screw's that need to be removed.

After you remove the two screw's pull up on the light and push in the little tab on the wire connector and remove the plug from the light.

After you get the harness disconnected then you'll need to remove the little cover over the bulb's again you can pop it loose using a knife.

Then you can use your thumb and slide the piece that hold's the bulb out of the box. It's not snapped in place so it shouldn't take much force.

When you get the circuit board removed turn it over and you'll see that it's held into place using two tab's on each side. Slowly fold the two tab's over while using a knife to pop the circuit board loose.

Once you get the circuit board removed flip it over and where you see the two wire's come thru the board for the clear bulb. You'll need to get a soldering iron and heat of the solder on those two wire's while having someone else pull the bulb form the circuit board.

Before you attempt to install the new bulb look at it and you'll see that the electrode on the inside of the bulb is smaller on one side. Looking at the circuit board with the prong's toward's you it should be on the right. Make sure you install the new one the same way. The bulb needed for this is a 3mm led. To reinstall everything just do these step's in reverse. I know that this write up is not the best I could have done but since I already replaced the bulb this is all that I could really show everyone. If anyone has a question just ask.

Who knows, but if you send a link to this thread to RockPick then he will transfer it in there. And you will get a nifty technical article contributor tag underneath your name like mine ^^^^^
K Thanks man! I hope that it goes into enough detail to help everyone.

Did you check the price of replacing the entire module?

I dont think that his write up was to repair the bulb... I think it was more to change the color. but then again i have been wrong before.

Try a place like Radio Shack. Last time I got my LEDs was at either Circuit City or Fry's Electronics but CC is now gonzo and there isn't a Fry's nearby.

Thanks again Triton.

Well it's actually an LED, not a bulb, or "blub" for that matter.

You can find them relatively cheaply online, such as ebay etc. Just do a search for bright (insert color) LED, or security LED. I got mine from ebay, and it's flashlight bright. Lights up the entire cab at night.

Or just go to radio shack.

Thanks for this. I used it to try and black out the headlight sensor. Sadly, the only thing I had at work was some painters tape and it is apparently not enough. Ill be trying again using a few different things. Im hoping a bit of electrical tape will do the trick.

Why do you want to cover the headlight sensor? All it's gonna do is keep the headlight's on if you have the light's on automatic.

That is exactly why I want to do it. I keep my headlights on automatic. But when it rains, it isnt dark enough to turn the lights on. I always forget to turn them on when its raining. I want them on all the time. Every car I owned before this, I turned my headlights on anytime I was driving anyways. My bulbs might burn out sooner than yours but I dont mind changing them. I like having my lights on.
