Yup. Found it one time cleaning the truck but had no idea what it was, then after reading your post the light came on DUH! I do remember seeing the 510 on it though. The replacement one is the barrel type, but I don't think anyone will notice!!

This is an early christmas present to me..

I have been trying to figure this out for over three years and no one had an answer.... I pulled my console from my 01 SCREW and behold! The resistor was missing.. I'm headed to Radio Shack tonight and will have it fixed by tomorrow.. THANKS!!!!

Just got done with the repair, just to find out that the display is cracked at one end.. Looks as if the previous owner had made his own attempt at being a hammer mechanic. So the repair did work however I will need to replace the display. Thanks for the info. (NOTE the resistor that was missing was the same that was peeling up in the photo)

Yea it was, the 510 is the number on it. I think mine came off b/c my truck is a dark gray and I live in So Cal and spend time in the desert, I think it got "cooked off"!!
The Radio Shack one I mentioned in my earlier post is working fine.
Thanks again patman for the write-up

That was a nice write-up for the fix!
Now how about when the temp display is reading 140 degrees all the time.
Is it time for a new sensor? The compass works fine though. Maybe a reset button somewhere?

I have a 2001 with the exact same console as DirtySCREW. Just curious if anyone ever found out if a small tug was all that is needed??
