Help!! I just got done puttin my second coat on and went to put on my 3rd coat and it was sprinkling rain outside. i picked the lights up and brought em inside.

Do i wipe off the water or let it sit???

BigTruckGuy 07-02-2010 11:56 PM

i fixed it. i dabbed it with a towel and it left specs but they came out with the 3m compund.

but i just used 3m compound and didnt use the PLastX or Crystal Shine thinking that would be enough to make it shine but its not they are still to foggy so i have to go get some tmrw and put on to shine them up.

So just a heads up for future users: follow all steps and dont skip any. Use all polish compounds to get real shine!!

can you do your headlights the same way?

yes you can...and fog lights....just remember to keep temps above 70 degrees or you can have curing/bonding issues with the paint and achieving the glossy shine.

if anyone has questions on these PM me and I will answer...usually on every couple days and haven't checked this thread in awhile.

05BlackFX4 07-05-2010 04:49 AM

and heres the brake light....

https://www.f150online.com/forums/me...rd-brake-1.jpg0

well as you will see in the next pic i went out today after gettin the 3rd brake light dun. installed it and looked everything over and my tail lights have like a whitish tint to them..kind of like their not very clear in some places..like a fog..(u can see what im talkin about in the pic) so i took some more plast x to them to try and work it out but it didnt....

i think the reason is is because all of the buffing and polishin i did by hand and not by a machined buffer...

so should i redo them all over again or what???

05BlackFX4 07-06-2010 04:08 AM

wetsand them with 1000 or even 2000 grit to scuff....then re-clear them and do the polishing over again if you would like. The new layer of clear should put a new finish on the outside of the lens and fix your problem.

Machine buffers you can get at schucks, oreilly's etc..they are about $20 bucks

BigTruckGuy 07-06-2010 05:11 AM

ok il try that. thanks man.
did u get what i was talkin about? how it has that white look around the edge...

05BlackFX4 07-06-2010 07:06 PM

yea it looks like it might be excess clear coat

BigTruckGuy 07-06-2010 10:55 PM

ok. so what about if i get them to dark and wana lighten em up? sand 600 then clear coat and polish??

FXFordriver 07-13-2010 06:53 PM

Ugh! I was doing my third brakelight and went to put the clear on and it came out a murky white. I'm guessing I got a bad can or something. Now the whole thing is totally jacked! I tried sanding it down and starting over, even with 250 grit. It's too messed up. I guess I'll be buying a new one.
