Made a DMV intake. really easy But It seemed to me like MPG suffered alot. ran it for 2 weeks . Switched back to stock set-up.No need to lose Mpg for a little more power.

my 2 cents

You should not lose mpg from this mod, did you get your mpg figure from the computer on the dash or by hand?

Or are you stepping on the gas more because you can hear the intake??

^ they cause a little whine so for some members to claim they have lost mileage is because a 10 dollar intake just bought a little excitement to the plain ol 5.4

Has anyone done this mod lately? I went to my local Lowe's and they did not carry part number 23455. They did carry a downspout adapter that I believe would work, but not 100% sure on it. When any of you did this did it take some stretching to get that rubber downspout over the coupler?

What did you use to fit into the fender area? Looks like you did something different. Is is possible to use this cuff:

Then just use ABS pipe between the baffle and this fender cuff?

I agree. I originally did the mod with the downspout coupler etc. But found it didn't fit very far into the fender wall. I have also heard of people saying the rubber coupler has actually folded into itself from the suction of the intake. After doing it with just the DVM pipe that I had left over, I was able to get the pipe into the fender wall just as far as the stock intake hose was.

Anyone? Can I use that cuff to put in the fender or not? Somebody should update the material list for this mod cause I've read the whole thing 5 times and it changes on every page. I want to do this mod, but I would rather not grind down ABS pipe and I don't want a rubber adapter that gets sucked in.

There is a revised version of this mod that I posted in post #74 of this thread. You may want to look at doing that one if you have concerns about the downspout connector deforming or getting sucked inside out. Linky below:

Yep, I got this done right with the Spectre intake kit as well. Looks very clean, no ABS pipe grinding or other hassles. Mine looks exactly like this: https://www.f150online.com/forums/3818781-post74.html

Thanks kd4crs and FullerF-150 for the answered PM's.

Hi, I'm new here and had one quick question...can I do this mod on my 4.2? Its a 2007 and I've seen it done with PVC but I like the look of the Spectre tubing better. Would this be possible? Also, do MPG's suffer because of this? I've read mixed opinions, thanks!
