Have you not changed your fuel filter in awhile? Fuel filters are probably the most neglected preventative maintenance. Fuel filters screen out dirt and rust particles that may have gotten into your fuel tank or lines. Clogged fuel filters can add a variety of issues to your vehicle and extra wear to your fuel system.

Read the full discussion below to find out how to replace your fuel filter.

After examining the bar code, I believe it is a WIX filter. Not 100% sure thought. I will post a couple pics for you guys/gals.

A bit of gas comes out, but no risk of breaking the clip. First change on this truck and done in less than 20 minutes, most of which fighting the front connection.

My 05 has the blue clip. You do not remove the clip, just insert the tool to unlock the clip. Then when you insert the new filter, you push in the prongs on the clip. very simple. guys break the clip when they try to remove it and Ford now has a replacement clip.

The first filter i bought was unbranded, made in Taiwan. It came with clips. I took one look at the poor construction on the exterior and figured what was inside was probably worse. Threw it away and went after a Motorcraft. The Motorcraft does not have clips as you are not supposed to need them.

Fuel filter done, wix #33595 came with 2 plastic clips. I used the 5/16 plastic fuel line removal tool on the 2 lines without prying on the orange clip. You wouldn't believe the crap that came out of the old filter, 23000 miles. Thank you for the write up.

It is absolutely amazing how much better your truck seems to run after changing out the fuel filter.

Mine too. Runs much nicer at 70mph and higher.

Changed mine today. No Blue clip or orange clip for mine. If you have a Hayne's Manual, it shows about 4 or 5 different clip styles. I used the tool for both lines. The line after the filter actually had a clip on it holding it in place, which I had to take off in order to insert the tool. The bracket holding the filter in is very tight and required a good amount of muscle to pull out, resulting in fuel dumping on me a little bit.

I just got through changing my fuel filter and the fuel on the incoming side was as shown in an earlier photo, filthy! Only thing is I broke the blue clip and some pieces came out of the fuel line. I snapped it back together and turned the key on to prime the pump and I saw no leaks. My filter came with four clips but I couldn't figure out exactly how they worked. I will keep an eye on it for leakage, do you guys think I'll have any problems with the clip being broken?

It must be fuel filter changing day. I too change the filter in my 06 today. It had the orange clip on the rear line. I took the advise of a previous post and was able to remove the line with just the fuel line tool. I was also able to move the safety clip on the front line out of the way without having to unclip it. The truck has 33k miles and the fuel was a little off color, but not as bad some of the earlier post.

I doubt it'll be bad.

I just changed mine a few days ago at 15,000 miles and it was perfectly clean. I'm going to wait 20,000 miles next time. I also did not have any clips other than a metal clip on the nearest end to the motor of the filter.

Oh, no doubt... but's it's just extra insurance. Never too early to have extra clean fuel for the hard working engine.
