detailing?
 

i wanna do some detailing to some of the plastic parts in engine is there any kinda prep work that should be done to them to get the pait to stick? is there a certain paint that holds up better?

Degrease them to death,sand them,and use a plastic primer. You can find it in some resto catalogs like Eastwood and others. Not sure what paint others are using,I like the clean black look myself with add on looms and such. Didn't I see a post where Firezap used body paint(like the factory formula)?

Just a serious side question. How's your bumper holding up,mine seems to get a chip from a grain of sand? I was wondering if the factory paint is tougher.,,,,,98

well the paint definaly aint as hard as a diamond , but it aint to bad! sure it has its chips but nuttin u can see unless u get up real close! I fixed most of them with one of those little detail bottles of paint! I keep it in the glove box!!:-)

Painting plastic parts...
 

Its really pretty simple to do...the most important thing is to properly prep the parts first. You gotta get any oil, dirt, etc off first. I rubbed my parts down with some acetone which seemed to work real well. Then I lightly scuffed the pieces with one of those green scrub pads you use to clean pots and pans. After that, coated them with a couple of light coats of primer and once good and dry hit them all with paint that matches my truck. Im not totally sure of the brand....I know I bought it at Pep Boys though. So far so good...not chipping off a bit and I've washed my engine numerous times since I've done this too. Hope this helps.

Hmmm...I may get the bumper repainted,or strip it first and then have it completely done the right way. I think this guy just buzzed it with a sander and shot the paint. I have an idea too,though. I'll try to get it painted with single stage acrylic enamel. I know by experience that it's very hard to buff scratches out of. Maybe it will resist chips better too.
As for under the hood,I am going to fire up the mig and make a TB cover from scratch. I got ALOT of ideas at the show a few days ago:D

If you are going to have it repainted, make sure you ask them to add paint hardener to the paint, I painted the bumper of my old Bronco II and later had some damage repaired by a body shop. I added paint hardener (a friend of mine recommended it) and the difference in how it held up vs the body shop paint job (no hardener) was very evident.

It's a Grant styling ring,and is one of few options we have while keeping the factory airbag intact. They can be ordered at almost any auto parts store,although Napa tried to charge me $87,lol. Most places have them for around 55 to 65 bucks. They have also come out with a bunch of new styles too. The catalog at the AZ where I got mine had two styles of woodgrain,,woodgrain and leather,,and all kinds of combos of matierials.
