What's the scoop on Satin paint ???

I saw an F250 in Modesto, on my way to Yosemite Monday, which was...... now think about this as I explain it...... not metallic... not even glossy... but in fact, it was Satin Sage Green ! (in case you didn't know, Sage Green is kind of like green, with a hint of brown in it)
Anyway, I think it looked pretty bad ass.

I havn't seen too many Satin paint jobs.... and most that I have seen have been black. But I've liked them all ! My biggest concern with this paint would be upkeep. I mean, can you wax it ?

I can imagine that if anything (wax, tire spray, armorall, road grease / oil) got on it, it would screw it all up with those areas being glossier, and darker than the rest....

What are the +'s and -'s of Satin Paint ? Is a good Satin Paint job, easy... in between, or flat out tough to achieve ?

Hmmmm, interesting stuff.....
What do you know about it ?

They show finger prints very well.

I would imagine it could hide at night very well, and tinted windows would stick out like a sore thumb but yet still look pretty sweet. In Photoshop if you decrease some contrast you may achieve that look with your trucks paint, then you can post it and give us a better idea.

Hey Rednoved

They show finger prints very well
Yea, I'd imagine that too.... along with the other stuff I mentioned.

But Darren, I wasn't asking "How satin paint would look"..... As I say, I've seen it several times and it always looked great ! It totally stood out. No losing it in a parking lot filled with glossy white F150's ;-)

I think I might have to find an actual painting forum to discuss this one.....

Peace,
Fish

mine will be Flat black or "satin" black.

Yes SOME types of this will show finger prints easily and is hard to keep lookin good. But now they make a type of clear coat that gives the look of FLAT paint without having to actually use Flat paint and worry about the up keep. This is what ill be using.

heres the color my truck will be.

Okay now, thank you AZ ! I had been thinking about the photo you posted, but didn't know where to find it. I actually really like that paint...... but IMPO, it just looks wrong on a street truck. To me, this paint really needs to be on a straight up 4wd..... or at least a wanna' be 4wd like mine ;-)
Oh and btw, this paint is very close to the 4wd F250 I saw in Modesto, CA.

4.2trible, yea' buddy ! That looks sick, don't it ??? It's funny, I didn't know that they made a Satin type of clear coat, for regular paint.... but I was contemplating that today at work. (you see how much I think about work, huh ? ;-)

Like I say, my paint (which I love) is only about 1 year old, so I'm expecting several more years out of it..... but one day, I think I will have to hit it with Satin. I just hope it doesn't become a fad, which wears itself out by then......

Peace,
Fish

yeah the truck looks sick.

i really thought about blacking mine out totally but im kinda leaning against it.

I think im gonna go with a FLAT BLACK like the truck i posted but im gonna do a RED pinstripe as well as red axles and suspension.

you can use regualr base/clear paint and just add some PPG flex N flat into the clear to get the Satin look! You can regulate how glossy or flat you want it:thumbsup:
