HID's in FOG??
 

Hey fellas. All this buzz about HID's has got me interested/curious about 'em, and the main questions I can come up with are these:

Are they blinding in the fog? You know? Like how the high beams blind you in the fog? I've heard they can be blinding in heavy snow (I don't have to worry about that much), but heavy fog is a concern.

Also, are the single beam set-ups enough light in areas where there are no street lights, etc? I'm trying to justify the extra $40 in cost....

not sure about the fog, but i would spend the $40 dollars on the high beams, they are worth it... and youll want them on dark nights

x2 I would take the high beams anyways. Theres always someone out there that may flick their highs on because of your low HIDs, so send a brighter F you right back :lol:

Fog lights work 200% better if they are yellow. The yellow lights cut through the fog better. Which is why I have a set of 3000k bright yellow HID in my foglights

I heard that about the yellow fogs being better in the fog, but I gotta tell ya....I'm NOT liking the idea of having super-bright, white headlights and yellow fogs. I just can't imagine that being a good look. :confused:

My HID fogs did fine in both heavy fog and heavy snow. As long as you don't turn on the high beams and have your head lights aimed properly you'll be fine.

Yellow fog lights work a little better, but it's not a massive improvement. My PIAAs are yellow (around 3k) and they help a little. Just stay away from the stupidly blue HIDs. Anything over 6k you start to lose light output and you can't see anything in the rain. When you get into the 12k and up kits its almost like putting a black light in your head lights.

My 4300ks lows did a lot better job of cutting through fog than the SS I had in there previously.

And yes, you'll want the high beams. Even though the lows are bright, you still need illuminate what's further down the road (especially in places that have deer.)

Personally, I would suggest to use 5K or 6K. Anything above that would have a blueish color (8K - more blue but some white, 10K - blue, 12K - neon blue). Also, depending on how strict your local enforcers are. I live in California and I've seen people get pulled over for just having blue headlights.

I would suggest to use yellow HID (3~3.5K) lights for your foglights. Yellow lights are much more visible during foggy and snowing conditions compared to white and blue HID lights.
