Moisture Problems with HID's????
 

I have already replaced my foglights on my truck due to the amount of moisture/ water that got into my fogs and turned green. One of my HID's had blown because of it as well. The last little while I have turned on my one remaining Foglight HID and have since noticed moisture in the one foglight. Have any of you also had this issue. I do live in the Northwest where we get a ridiculous amount of rain as well it is cooler. I didn't think HID's really put off that much heat.

It doesn't help that the foglights have no protection from the front wheels. I was thinking about making a plastic extension to fill the wheel well to protect the plugs on the back of the fogs.

I don't want to ruin this pair as well and moisture in headlights/foglights totally annoys me.

HID's actually run alot cooler then halogens and did you tape up around where the bulb is when placed into the fog housing?

No I didn't but will be for sure this time. I think part of the problem was I didn't have the option of getting 9145(H10) bulbs at the time. My new ones are H10. Now I just need to get the existing moisture out.

i had the same problem with my fogs on my 08 limited. i have an 8000k kit for my fogs and i noticed a little moisture got into 1 of them. therefore i took the whole assembley of my truck and observed it. 1st of all these hid's run realy hot. therefore my lens started to slightly melt and i believe the hot temps deformed or melted the factory seal for the housing and allowed moisture to get in. the mirrow like finish on the inside got messed up so i gotta replace the housing. but for now i got a hair dryer and tried to dry watever water was in there and sealed the little gap between the lens and the housing with sum silicone....it worked and held so far. but i am looking into a different color hid for my fogs. prob a 3000k bright yellow...

What wattage HID setup do you have in there? A 35W kit w/ 35W bulbs should run cooler than the 40W (or is it 45W) fogs that come factory...

honestly i didnt even look at the wattage when i ordered them and installed them. i know its an h10 bulb. but from what i hear hid's should run cooler but not mine.so i must have a high wattage bulb. but when i get a chance i will look and see the wattage.

HID consumes lower power than stock halogen bulbs. That's because majority HID on the market is 35watts compare to 55watts.
The only reason you would hear HID bulbs are not as warm compared to halogen is because of the wattage difference. But trust me HID is still very warm. That's why it's recommended to have a 1/2 an inch of clearance from the tip of the HID bulb to the reflector or the projector lens.

now would a 3000k bulb run cooler then an 8000k bulb???

no, the all put out 35W. the Kelvin is the color.

has any body ordered the 3000k, h10 hid kit off of ebay? and what seller did you buy from? i been trying to contact different sellers and have not got 1 response from hid4u or hidlighting168..
