Another Painted Grill

I painted my '04s grill yesturday. Turned out very nice. Much better than the paint job I did on my old Chevys grill. I had one hell of a time trying to remove the grill from the shell. So I said f^&* it and masked and painted it.

Three layers of flat black Krylon plastic paint, and one clear coat to keep the glossy look down, also Krylon.

Pictures dont really show the difference much, but it does look much much better than the dark grey it was.

Next task, I need to buy another valance, so I will paint that black when I get it, and pull out the grey lower grill and paint that also.

Did you just use rattle can paint ? Any type of clear coat afterwards ? Was going to paint my old lariat gold one black but didn't know if it would hold up.

Nice work, Darren.

You might want to look into having your valance Line-Xed in black, instead of painting it. Several guys have done this and I think it looks really good! Of course it costs more, but it should hold up really well to rock hits.

Yeah, some Krylon plastic flat black from Wal-Mart. And yes again I used some Krylon Clear Glaze clear coat, just one layer though. I wanted it protected but not over-glossed looking. It should hold up well, many people have done this before, Ford & Chevy guys mostly. As long as its a paint meant to bond to plastic, and the grill is cleaned very well, should be no worries.

Thank you. I never thought of that. The valances on these trucks are quite weak though. It really disappointed me when that rock busted mine. I honestly will probably just end up painting it with the same stuff as the grill, but i'll keep that in mind and maybe look for a estimate price for it.

Until then, you could maybe go behind it and use a fastner or something to hold it back in place so at least its not noticeable. Just a thought.

Yeah some center support would be good for it. I cant take my plate bracket off until I replace the valance, wind will just pull it apart more.

What I really need is a 6" lift

Your ride looks really cool and clean! I like what you did to your grille, I'm diggin' it! Now I'm thinking of doing that to my grill too.

Go to the dealer & get a can of the gold/tan they use for it ( Arizona Beige? ) meant for plastics and sand your chrome one well & it should work out well.
