do you have to do anything special to them? or can you just hook them up and forget about it?

When I use my auto lamp feature 50% of the time only 1 light ignites... I think it might have something to do with most of the power going to the starter but not totally sure, but if i wait untill the truck is started and manually turn on my lights they work fine....

The only thing you can do is try it.... I just know I dont use my auto lamp anymore... Like i said sometimes they both light up and sometimes only 1 does... At first i use to leave my autolamp on and just turn the switch manualy on and off and the autolamp would keep them both on... But whats the use of autolamp if you have to flick the switch anyways... Can you disable your autolamp...

I have heard that you are supposed to disable the auto lamp due to the low voltage going through hence the reason you lose having driving lights and only have regular headlights. When you start the vehicle there is also another drop in power which will flash the lights again. As far as I know HID's need constant power otherwise you can start blowing the ballasts.

I always turn my foglights( which have HID's) on and off manually as I get in after the truck is started or just before I get out.

it can be done but you need to install a relay somewhere along the line. Robert Currie is right on, with the auto lamp it only sends a low voltage along the line which only gives you enough to ignite one bulb. you need to disable autolamp to run HIDs correctly or you will be SOL when the ballasts start blowing
