Ok which is it 9145 or 9005's?
I just installed some HIDS in my headlights and now am sold on getting the fogs replaced. I have heard everyone saying 9145's or 9005's. Which is it? I think I should go with 9145 but just want to be clear. Please don't anwser "Both will work". 9145 OR 9005?
BTW: I went with the H13 6000K Bi-Xenon Kit (Hi/Low) from HID4u off ebay for 149.98 shipped. Great kit. Very fast shipping (I guess it should be for 50bucks) I might have been happier with the 5000k (no blue tint) kit but I do like the 6000k (tint of blue). Forget about putting those pin's in the stock harness. I just cut the stock harness off and saved it. I just wanted the best connection possible. Those pins were to close together and seemed like a loose connection. |
First yours takes 9140, not 9145. 9145 was for the 04 and 05, but will work. The 9005 will work, but on the 06 up with the round fogs, they have a tendency to melt the lenses.
PS, the 9140 and 9145 are exactly the same wattage, 40. |

This is what I posted in another thread:
9145 halogen bulbs are the stock bulb size that come in the fogs. People put in 9005 size bulbs since a 9005 halogen bulb puts out a lot more light. This is because the 9005s are high beam bulbs, which just happen to fit (the bulb may need minor modification) in the fogs. As NoLongerJeepin said, because HIDs in general are so bright, there wouldn't be a real need to choose a 9005 bulb instead of 9145 bulb because they are both bright. So, it would just be easier to get a 9145 HID bulb since it would fit right in, as opposed to a 9005 bulb, which may or may not require some modification. Hope that makes sense. |
are the tabs on the 9005 slightly different than the 9145 because my 02 f150 had the 9145 and stupidly i bought a pair of 9005 bulbs off of ebay because they stated they would fit but I tried last night lying in the snow and no luck are they different. because the 9145 bulb went right in.

As for the melting issue, it happens with 9005 halogens in round fog lights because the 9005s are a lot hotter than the 9145 fogs. As far as I understand, with HIDs, this isn't a problem since HIDs run cooler than halogen bulbs. |

i have 9005's in my Fogs and have never had a problem and i have 8000k HIDS in them now

The only problem I had with 9005 SS Ultras was that my glare guard came off. Could have been the heat that melted the base, or it could have just been build quality. Who knows. I have replacement fogs now stockers (waiting on HID bulbs since one burnt out because of excess condensation.)
