How's this for window tinting rates?
 

Just made a few phone calls, and the first window tinting place I called seemed the most reputable. Their ad says they have free lifetime warranties, so. Well for my 2 door Focus, the guy on the phone told me:

35% tint = $130
15% tint = $140
5% tint = $160

and an extra $10 for the first 6" on the windshield.

Not bad, I don't think? I was reading up on another thread about tinting, and 35% is still see-through and I want something darker. So, I was thinking 20% for the driver & passenger & windshield top, and then like a 15% tint for the rear windows & hatch window. Or maybe just 20% all the way around. Not sure how much it would be to mix tinting percentages, but. Guy said it would be done in an hour to an hour and a half, same day.

Those sound kinda average, if not a little high. All I know is that my place charges by the window, not by the % of tint. Back to the price though, you can either pay that much and get a life time warrenty or meet some shaddy guy at the car wash who will do it for 30 bucks (Ive seen it before). The cliche 'you get what you pay for' comes into play here.

In most states, the 35 (32) is the darkest legal tint. Most shops will tint darker than legal, but won't give you a receipt since they can be criminally liable for breaking the law.
I just had my two front windows done by a very reputable local shop. $25 per window- $50 for two windows. While I was there, a guy came in with a full size work van (two front windows, two side windows and two rear windows) and he was quoted $100. This guy also had a 2 day backlog, I had to make an appointment to get mine done.

Hmm, maybe it just seems low because I was thinking in the $200 range. I've now changed my mind; I want the regular 35% for the passenger and driver windows... that's what the guy on the phone was recommending. What would you guys suggest for the rear windows and the hatch window? What percent?

It looks like this place is where I'm gonna need to go; since all the others in the phonebook didn't give me an easy feeling. :lol:

$25 a window here in NJ...side windows. For back windows $50.

I just got my windows done and they were $165 for all 5 of them. I own an 02 Supercrew and they now read out to 5% on the back window and 2 doors, and 20% on the front 2, and I love it. With 20% I can see out just fine, but to see in you have to stick your head to the windows to actually see in there. I've never heard of a place that charges for the percentage of the tint. Good luck though :thumbsup:

Prices are OK, on par for good tints with a lifetime warrenty. Don't mix the tints, that will just look silly. And also keep in mind a dark interior will absorb more light and make the tint look darker. My 20% on my F150 with tan interior looks darn close to our bimmer with 35% and black interior. I'd honestly go with the 35% all around if you have the dark grey/fint interior. It will look sharp and keep you out of trouble with the piggies.

I paid $135 for just the 2 fronts with custom flames. In this pic (sorry the wife had the window partly down) you can see the difference when you use 2 tint shades. But I had to compromise, because: a) It's illegal in Ca to tint front side windows but CHP isn't quite as touchy if they can see you; and b) My wife is very uncomfortable with the super dark windows.

I agree those prices seem average if not a ting high. For my old car, I had a 3 door coupe, and got the drivers, pass, 2 backseat windows, and rear glass tinted at 5% for $100 (of course this was also in a little town where my fiance lives!) but for the average 35%, around 100-120 seems good.

My fiance got the 35 or maybe 25% on his Dodge with the chrome etched flames for $150 (normally $200 b/c it was "etched") which included his front windows to match the back factory tint, the etched chrome flames, and a strip on the front windshield.

So you think with a dark grey/flint interior with 35%, it will look darker (because of the dark interior)? Does that mean it will reduce heat in the car if it's sitting in the sun (versus no tint at all)?

I've got 30% on the front windows of my truck, and it looks darker than it really is, probably because like D sez from the black interior. Cost me $70 or so, using Lluminar tint with a lifetime warranty. In Georgia at least, they recently threw the tint limits out the window. I'm gonna keep mine at 30% though.

Yeah, I am pretty solid on the 35% tint now, with the 5% on the windshield. :cool:
