Question Sunroof.....

Has anyone installed their own sunroof? And if so, what size and model?

I have a 97 SC and I am looking to do one. I talked to someone at a local body shop and they advised me against it because they said my roof would sag.

Thanks,

CJ

cj797,

I had an aftermarket sunroof put in my 01 SuperCrew about 5 months ago and its awesome ! Not only did they do an excellent job, but it comes with a lifetime warranty on parts and labor as long as I own it. I went to site called www.mysunroof.com and they are thru a co. called Hebasto or was it Webasto Anyway, they have locations all over and they can give you a quote. I did opt the biggest and best model they offerred so it was a bit pricey--- $1100 But I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Hope that helps

I remember asking a dealer about sunroofs, and he said they would do them for about $400...

I had a Hebasto L installed in my 97 Supercab in 1997. My roof has not sagged one bit. If anything, the framework for the sunroof reinforced the roof. The sunroof is very good quality. I had one problem with the motor last year and it was fixed for free (lifetime on mechanics and leaking).
I understand they continue to sell this self-storing electric sunroof.
It's one of the largest available for the F150.
Find a reputable installer. One good way is to go to one of your local Ford Dealers and ask them who does their installs. Few vehicles come from the factory with a sunroof most are installed locally. When i discussed warrantee with my installer, I told I told him I planned to keep my truck forever. He thought I was joking.

Six years ago the sunroof installed was about $600. I am not sure because I bought it with a package that gave electric windows, electric door locks and sunroof.
I must say it is worth many times that to have the top open and the SKY flowing in, I would never have a truck without one again......

Never would have thought that Ford would install a sunroof for that cheap. I am gonna look into that.

Hey WLF,

Do you have any pics of the inside & outside of the sunroof? I am really interested in the Hebasto, especially since they have lifetime warranty on mechanical and leaking. Thanks, appreciate it. Oh, one more thing, where is the switch? Thanks.

KingRanchSC02,

I don't have any right now but I'll break out the old digital and snap a couple. Give me a few days.

BTW the switch is located at the front inside of the sunroof within easy reach. I will make sure to include it in the pictures.

KingRanchSC02,
I will get the pictures up soon. Had a problem with my computer at home but got a new hard drive loaded yesterday so in the next day or two will post the pictures.

SilverBulletFX4,
Steel Horse makes both upper and lower grills. I got them from J. C. Whitney. With the early F-150s that have the chrome grill, you do have to cut the center out. I used a dremmel tool. Take your time and take a lot of breaks. Cut wide and then grind back.
The Blade Runner in the center is off a 2000 Taurus. You can get them very reasonably from any Ford Dealer. They also sell them on E-bay. Mine is held on with springs but that is tricky. I think large zip ties would work as well.
