I Zaino'd today

First really nice day here so I figured I'd finally treat the big girl to hand bath and wax. I only did one coat of Zaino's show car polish, but it sure turned out nicely. The new activator they have really helps cut time down. anyway, below are some pics I took after completing the job:

 zaino....yum :D

hopefully i'll get to throw a few more coats on next month some time. been almost 5 months since it was done last. still lookin great though :D

Hey 356, just been lookin at your galleryies, and I see my truck in there! lol, that's cool. I have to say, you have one of THEE sexiest rides on this board. :bows: I have to learn from your galleries on how to shoot these trucks....great photographs, and great paint.

It hurts everytime I wash/wax this truck b/c I find more chips, scratches and such every time. :(

Harley#356 Mar 23, 2003 09:21 PM

LoL, thanks for the compliment

and i better be getting better at taking pics....i've got like 5 galleries of photo's, probably over 1K pics uploaded, and thats only like 1/10 of the pics i've taken

Oh, please remove that sig pic with the keystone hood photoshopped on your truck. I saw a 02 HD yesterday with that hood, and now i am desperately trying to find a way to sell mine, and get that hood, and not be out more than 100 bucks :help: LoL! I've got the bug now

braboin Mar 23, 2003 11:36 PM

How many coats do you usually put on your truck? I'd like to put more, but man, polishing a Screw wears me out.....Maybe I can get another coat on next weekend.

yeah that keystone hood is pertty ain't it? I have another type of hood PS'd onto my truck in my galery, I wouldn't get it, but it sure gives a different look to the truck....like it should have a S/C underneath....I wish

I wish I had the extra cash to get the hood, or new tires..... anyone need a website? I do that on the side, as you can see some of my works at Buckfu.com I'm really cheap!

Just for you 356, here's my sig:

Your truck looks good, but it shouldn't be too much effort to work with Zaino. With ZFX I can get 3 coats on with Z6 in between in about 90 minutes. How much Zaino did you use for that coat? I suspect you may have applied it too thickly which can make removing it tough. Thin coats are just as effective with Zaino and make it much easier to work with.

braboin Mar 24, 2003 09:45 AM

Ya, I know I use too much, I had a 3/4 in the little mixing tube they send with the vfx, and i used it all  guess I need to learn how to ration. :)

Yeah, that is a lot. I get about 3 coats on an extended cab F-150 per ounce, or half the bottle. Try using a foam pad to apply Zaino instead of the cotton ones from Zaino. Also, keep the pad damp with either Z6 or water. What I do is spray the pad with Z6, then put a drop of Z2/Z5 on the pad, then apply to paint. I spray with Z6 about every 3rd drop of polish.

Harley#356 I have a question for you since you seem to have a huge picture gallery on Hood Scoops maybe you could direct me to a Functioning RAM AIR hood that would work with the Airforce one unit. Not only would it look good but to get cool air pushed right at the AF1 wood be great.

Thanks,
Richard D.

Rich, any hood that has open scoops will help get colder air into the engine bay and therefore into the intake, like the cervini's and keystone and all those, but the only *true* functional ram air hood that i can think of is the Keystone one, and it only works with the stock airbox. I'm am officially getting the keystone hood though, and you have to cut a hole out in the bottom for the air to come through the scoops and out, i'm just making this hole by the AF1 intake

anyway, i get once coat per ounce with zaino. i do 3 coats a day usually. the one ounce does my whole extended cab truck, including top and bottom of hood, tonneau cover, entire inside of bed, and door sills, and with the Z2, instead of the bed and door sills, i do the chrome

I saw a RAM-AIR hood being insatlled on TRUCKSTV a few weeks ago but can't remeber the name of the company that manufactured it. It already has the passage ways built into the hood from the scoop to the air box. By the way what does it cost to have one of those hoods painted to match the color on the truck at the body shop? Just a rough estimate as I am sure th price is varied by location.

that hood on trucks was originally a Proglass Shaker hood, they've sold their molds to Keystone now though, so its a keystone hood brand now.

Paint for a hood usually costs about 400 on average

You'll love using Zaino. I went all winter long which was a real bad winter, tons of snow and tons of road salt. Could not wash it by hand until just a few weekends ago.

Anyway after approx. 25 - 30 car washes, no Zaino, No Z-6, no nothing my truck still had plently of Zaino on it. It, in my opinion, out last any polish/wax on the market.

That's one reason why RockPick is been trying to get some...
