ok I had an amp installed. planet audio 1000w 2 spk. What is the recommended size fuse for the battery wire going to amp??
The one that was there was a 10a fuse. that fuse stopped working but was not blown as far as I could see. did test fuse
in the fuse holder and no power would come thru the fuse to the other side.
The fuse actually on the amp is 25a should it be at least that or higher for the battery wire
well it was a 100 amp fuse not a 10. yes it is dead,, the fuse, took a dmm to it. I stuck a 40a fuse in it an it works. the 100a fuse is gold covered not sure if that has anything to do with it. also moved away from the top of the raddy,, it was getting heated.
100 amp fuse should be good. 1000 watts divided by 12 volts = 83 amps
I personally recommend these types of fuses. It is the type I use and most people and
audio shops use now.
This question arose from the system stopped working about a yr or less ago. then just recently went out again. the first time I took it back to the place that installed it. they replaced the fuse for the power wire. the second time I looked at it and the same fuse stopped working. it was not blown from what I could see. also checked with DMM.
I checked the specs on amp 4 ohms @ 250w,, 2 ohms @ 500w both rms.
The fuse they installed, is it a glass fuse with gold on the ends? If it is those were known for going bad for no reason. The filament is soldered to the ends and will vibrate lose.
The other thing I noticed is if that amp is really that much power the power and ground wires at the amp are way to small. The should be more like a 6 or 4 gauge. When that
amp starts kickin and drawing alot of current/ amps that wire will get hot as hell. If all they installed is a 12 gauge wire then someone at that shop needs to learn how to calculate

Personally I would change it. Those are the ones I said have issues. the filament is soldered to the end caps and come lose. I would change it out to something like the link I posted. I've done stereo installs for over 30 years and find this type fuse more accurate and reliable. And when you need to work on you equipment pull the fuse and put the cover back on. I've seen lots of the gold ones lose an end in the holder and that just sucks.
Yes it is replaced. its a all nickel fuse that came from an old fuse holder I had from an old install.
the wires are ok for me,, I don't crank it that loud.
actually I added a second speaker to it. I also want to separate the two that I have,, rite now they are both in one box. want to have two separate boxes,, one for each speaker. plus two amps one for each speaker.
How many amps are you running in that set up??? looks like a whole lot!!!! with the wires your using there!!!!
plus my amp that 1000 amp thing is peak. prolly only makes like 500 rms.
