Is this Amp Enough?

I had purchased a Kicker ZX300.1 (300 watt RMS at 2 ohm) to power what I thought was 1 Kicker 05CVR104 (300 watt RMS wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load). Everything appeared to be fine, but come to find out the speaker is actually a 07CVR104 (400 watt RMS). Question is, will the 300 watt amp still be fine to power the higher power handling 07 speaker or do I need to consider upgrading the amp?

You would still be fine. Crutchfield lists that sub as handling between 50-400 RMS. You are not going to be able to tell a difference in volume if you went from 300 watts to 400.

You will be fine...

you will be fine just dont try the turn the gain up to high to try it get more power. plus kicker amps usually put out more power then than rated.

keep this in mind the all the gain does is add/take away the amps. the amp is an ampilifer not a wattifer.

I decided to go ahead and upgrade the amp, which actually only cost me $30 more for the Kicker ZX400.1. I purchased the amp from Crutchfield, and when I talked with them they said it was no problem to return the ZX300.1 and get the 400 watt unit. They even paid the return shipping, and all I have to pay is the difference in the units. :rocker:

I would rather go ahead and get the full benefit of what the sub is rated at since it only ended up being a $30 difference.

Yeah, that is one nice thing about Crutchfield. You can pop up in a week and say you dont like your setup and they will send you a call tag to have it all returned for free. Then just pick out new stuff.

Yeah, for only $30, you probably made a good choice. And now you will have a little bit more power if you ever decide to change to something else.

Once its installed, post up your pics and your review of your setup.

Good luck,

WAIT WHAT?

Uhh the gain is just used for signal matching. AND IT DEALS WITH VOLTAGE. Not watts or Amps.
