Question CAT Back help low end with Superchip?

I now have a Superchip. Will the addition of a CAT Back exhaust system improve the low end HP and Torque?
I want to make sure I don't give any low end away, I do a lot of towing.

I agree with you, I don't want to lose any low end torque, I have read that cat back lowers low end torque, so I've not done that mod as of yet. Thats what I read, would like to find out different though.

Depending on what engine you have, there are several options. If you have the 4.2 I rcommend the Gibson swept side catback. I got this before my chip and my performance was better in the low and high end. With the 4.2, dual exhaust is not a good idea(I think).

If you go with the magnaflow cat back exhaust you will receive positive torque and hp threw all throttle ranges..And it only about 4db louder than stock...

So you wont lose low end torque with other systems you will because the exhaust doesnt work on low end throttle only mid range and wot....

How this helps..

Hi simpleman,

That's a *very* important question, as unfortunately almost all cat-back exhaust systems available for these late-model F-150's & Expeditions, etc., cause a loss in low-end torque, even though they'll all gain some horsepower at higher rpms & heavy throttle.

When you open up the exhaust flow with bigger tubing & so-called low-restriction muffler(s), you also generally slow down the actual *velocity* of the spent exhaust gases, to the point that you lose much of the scavenging effect that helps to pull the spent gases out of the cylinder head, and *that* is the specific mechanism that causes the loss of torque. This is what happens when you open up the flow capacity of the exhaust but do not do any or correct flow engineering to keep the actual *velocity* of those spent gases up high enough.

Magnaflow are the only people we see really doing this right at this time. Their cat-back systems for the F-150 (& the Expedition unit) were found to actually increase both torque as well as horsepower available *all* the time, at any throttle position or rpm. So in that regard, it works similar to the Superchip, in that there is always more torque and horsepower available.

Now what this does NOT answer is whether this is going to give you all of what you want in the way of additional torque when towing, as that is something that is highly individual and also depends on just how much weight is involved, too. It's certainly the best exhaust to use, whether for towing or even at the drag strip for that matter, as it shows not only the best torque numbers at any throttle positon or rpm, but also the highest peak horsepower gains as well, exceeding even the name brand true-dual exhaust systems available for the F-150, like Spintech, etc.

Now that you have done the Superchip, yes, generally speaking the next 2 most cost-effective things to do are to reduce restriciton in the air intake tract and to reduce restriction in the exhaust, so that the motor can b-r-e-a-t-h-e as it needs to with that kind of load on it.
