Howdy all! New to the site. Got HID questions?
The harness will only go in one way. Its kinda dumby proof. Im thinking over it in my head and im kinda thinking that the truck is confused because the other side of the headlight harness (stock) isnt hooked up. The truck ultimatly thinks there is a problem. And there is a voltage loss from the passenger side to the driver side. Does the truck need to have both hooked up to work properly?
2. If the harness is installed as above, if one ballast works, both should work unless there is a problem with the HID kit or the install. At the point of the harness install, the truck cannot turn 1 ballast off, the ballasts are isolated by the relay harness.
I have the same problem that most everybody on here has. My driver side head light only works when it wants to. The high beam indicator comes on dim when i turn on the driving lights. And the driving lights were working backwards of the stock operation.
I ordered a relay harness and installed it... it made the driving lights work fine... but i lost my hi beams and the driver side light still doesnt come on. Well?? kind of??? it does when it wants to. If i turn the switch on and off two dozen times,,, it will turn on 5 times out two dozen. So it only works when it wants to. I checked and changed all grounds and rechecked all connections. In the big realm of things... The relay harness made my problem worse. But im not sure that the harness is for a hi low kit. It says it is.. But i dunno? Never seen the other harness. Any ideas? Im at a loss. Im gonna take everything off the truck and start over from scratch. Just to see if i missed something.

BTW : How many threads are you going to make about this ?

Just can't dump that thang, eh?
Why not just give it to me?

So you have a bi-xenon kits, yes? It is the one where the HID bulb moves back and forth, or the one with HID low/halogen high?
Either way, it should have come with it's own relay harness. It should have a positive ( + on battery), one H13 male connector (serves as trigger), two female 9005/9006 connectors (for powering the ballasts), two little black wires (connect to other black wires coming from bulb, it's for the solenoid), two ground wires (one for each bulb), and a control/relay box where all these wires come from.
If you bought another relay harness, that would probably explain why you don't have high beams anymore, since a "normal" relay harness works to power the ballasts, but has nothing to operate the solenoid (the little black wires).
You should be able to test/power the ballasts by hooking them up to your fogs. The 9145 connects should be able to plug right in to the ballast. Hook them both up, and turn on your fogs (but still keep the bulbs in the headlight). Does the same ballast still not turn on? If it doesn't turn on, swap the ballasts. Does the problem follow the ballast?

Both ballasts are firing just fine. But the light just doesn't come on. I checked continuity at the light and coming from the ballast. Rechecked the wiring and tested continuity throughout the system. I do have a small power drop to the ballast on the side that the light isn working. But it looks like it's because of a small box that is online between the two ballasts. But 12v is still getting to that light. Just changed out the bulb to a brand new one and that didn't make a difference. The relay harness does look like crap. But I bought it from a place that was referred to me. And I see that a couple other people on here have bought the same one. But it made my problem worse. So it's coming back off. As far as my wiring job,...... It's bar-none. I'm not worried about that. Let's just say I'm extremely experienced in that area. I'm not above a mistake. But this is pretty simple compared to what I'm used to. The only other option is the truck... And I don't understand how it could be the culprit
If I switch the wiring harness around backwards. The other light was having problems. Basicaly the side of the truck that didn't use the stock conector for the headlight wasn't working. Either way I did it. The lights worked better before the relay harness.
And the lights I have are on an actuator. The lights move in the socket.

And what's up with the hi beam indicator???? Fading on only half lit up????? That tells me something is happening with the signal from the truck. I think the truck is as confused as I am!!!!
What is the " small box " on the power wire from the battery to the ballasts ?
If not, this is well documented as the cause, the fog lamp relay is having to use the high beam indicator to source ground.
You keep blaming the truck for being "confused" but yet I would guess if you put the factory bulbs back in, you don't have any issues.
You have this confusion, but your install is "bar-none" ??
You have yet to confirm if the relay harness is like the diagram above, so even that is in question.
Hey sscully... I removed the whole system the other day. Took everything out. Reinstalled everything just to make sure I was right. Didn't see a problem. So I put everything back in and hooked it all up. Still the same problem. So... I thought maybe it was in the wiring. So I got a wiring harness off another set that I bought for my motorcycle and tried it. The wiring was too short but relatively the same. I just wired it with the headlights out under the hood. And it did the same thing. I swapped the bulb again and the ballast to the othe side and still the same. Took all the grounds and hooked them strait to the battery ground. And still the same.
As for hooking them up wrong... It's not really possible..??.. Everything is plug and play. It won't hook up any other way. And since I used a diferent harness and it didn't change anything. It's got to be hooked up right. Unless the japs crossed a wire in te harness making the darn thing..?
When I put on the relay... (as your diagram said.) it was the same then too. Only no more high beams. Weird! As for the ballasts.... They were both working the whole time. You could hear both of them fire up everytime the switch was turned on. I used a test light at the bulb conectors to make sure voltage was getting to the bulb. And it was. (dont use a test light for this by the way... You go through a lot of bulbs! Haha) but it was working. Voltage meter said 12.8 volts at every plug from the battery all the way to the lights. The only diference was at the hot wire into the driver ballast said 12.2 volts. But I wouldn't think that was enough to stop it from firing.
I pulled everything out of the truck and put in the stock bulbs and they work. BUT!! The firs time I tuned on the stock ones... The lights didn't come on. I pulled the battery post off to check to see if I blew a fuse and everything looked fine. Rechecked everything with the stock harness and plugged the battery back in and they now work fine. Soooo???? I got nothing! Think I'm just gonna buy a better set off NCIS and see what happens there. Maybe they are just a cheap set up???

Oh and the little box that is on my harness is between the left and right side ballasts. Im not sure what it is??? But its built better than the whole kit! Its in a hard case about the size of a pack of smokes. and is sealed up with that perma seal stuff that is almost bullet proof! Lol! Not sure what it is but its made in to the harness. No conectors on it. Built into the harness. So i dunno? Thought it was for the high lows but that doesnt add up because its between the ballasts.
