Calling all high mileage 5.4s...

Preferably more the 97-03s. There is an old thread on here about high mileage 5.4s without blowing plugs. I just wanted to start another more updated one.

I have 117,000 on my 2000 and haven't had a problem. I came VERY close. But no blow outs yet. Changed em twice so far!

let's go!

I have 145,000 on my '02 5.4 without any problems. The body is going to rust and fall apart before the engine dies...

272,000 miles w/no problems. Once their broke loose, -disconnect the ratchet and spin them out w/the extension. Always installed or reinstalled plugs with a scrap piece of 3/8 air line. Spin down to snug, then 1/2-3/4 turn after seat. Directions were on the plug box (if you use iridium's). That turns out to be between 23-30 ft lbs. I did check that once, - honest

100,000+ miles and it's under boost, thanks to proper torquing of the spark plugs I've not blown a plug either

165k on my last truck with no blown plugs, 119k on my expedition before that with no blown plugs, 125k before the motor was swapped out with no blown plugs and now 12.5k miles and plan on many years and miles without blowing one out.

152k on my '03 and no issues with blown plugs. When I had a low-grade misfire, found one plug that was finger-tight but it didn't blow out. Since then I followed jbrew's means & methods and went with the iridiums and runs better than I ever remember. Def. recommend the iridiums for the 2v 5.4's.

Hey I have a 99 Supercab 5.4- I'm at 188,350 miles, got my truck when it had 120,000 on it- It's been in the family since it had 1 mile on it so I know it's never had a plug blow out but i don't know if they've ever been changed- i get 11 miles a gallon and people tell me it's because i need new plugs- What are the iridiums you guys are talking about, what brand are they and should i buy them? Have been planning on changing them but don't know which ones to buy, seeing this thread finally got me to ask u guys about it- Any info you ugys could shoot over to me would be greatly appreciated- But yeah 188 and no blown plugs-
-Bruce

With 188k on the original plugs, why would you put anything different in?

You mean why would I choose a different plug than the original? Or why would I change them at all? (Sorry if that's a stupid question just needed to make sure exactly what you meant)

Really wanna change them because of the 10-11 miles/gallon
