have Troyer XCalII - considering bama chips or VMP tuning?
Delta, here is a link directly to where you order the Bama tuning, Im not sure if you have found it and looked at it or not...
http://www.jusnesmodified.com/store/...roducts_id=149
Seems pretty easy (almost to easy to me)
And here is VMP, first time Ive look at it myself. http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...=165&parent=66
For some reason Im more into Bama than VMP...

Im also a little concerned about them setting things up right, especially for my 3.5 AF1, since I know my truck would run damn lean if it wasnt right. I would be peessed if my truck blew up because they didnt know how to tune perfectly for all that stuff. I would for sure take it straight to a dyno, Im just leary about new things.

4-digit box code will not tell them the specific 7-digit full strategy internal code that's in your PCM....
Hence - it's going to be a canned SCT template tune file, with some minor tweaks for the questions listed on that page.
Not what I'd consider a true "from-scratch" custom tune. Can't be - not without that full strategy code info. It's gonna have to be generisized to the strategy 'family', but no deeper, and not as comprehensive or thorough.
This would partially explain the speedy turnaround, IMHO.

I'd love to be proven wrong here folks (seriously), as this has been my understanding to date.
Thanks.

hey guys i agree with all of you!!
i dont want just a generic canned tune. I did look at both VMP and bama chips/jusnes modified and actually emailed doug i belive at jusnes modified. I'll see how he responds to my questions and will let you guys know. MGDFan hit it right on the head, how do we know they really know our trucks without actually bringing it there for a true dyno run or something? I guess thats where troyer's expertise comes in to effect.
oh well lets see if i get an email response.

[QUOTE=MGDfan]I agree - seems too easy.

Yup - that too - for this Doug would need the specific MAF TF correction table to input into the tune - and this is not an 'off-the-shelf' item. This is determined by a lot of testing to derive that info (for each and every intake), so I dunno how this is handled.

This is the biggest reason when I decided on a CAI I went Troyer/3.5 AF1. Short of getting dyno tunes I felt that Mike should have this system down considering all the testing and times it appears he's written tunes for this and I feel confident he will give me good, safe tunes via email. I wish I had more time/proximity to get a good dyno tune. Probably would not feel real confident getting a high flow CAI with emailed tunes from a place unless it was highly proven.

MGD, do you think it would be ok to go with a tune like Bama for the time being, without using the 3.5 AF1? He would be tuning for a basically stock truck (minus custom exhaust) so I dont know if there is that much that he could screw up...I dunno....
I would think it would at least have to be better than stock...

justin at vmp asked for my stategy code not the 4 digit code. thata odd about the bama only askingfor the 4 digit code. when i went to the track i still busted off consistant a 16.24. that is without the af1 and with a k&n. i did add an efan. with the troyer tunes it was a 16.49. si think that after a couple more tweaks i will be set.

Almost certainly okay, straight stock; the SCT templates are fine - safe, generic but not optimized. Kinda like the ones SCT puts into the 9415 SF canned tunes.
Good luck, bud.
Cheers

Quick question - how's Justin tweaking without feedback? Are you planning on providing any data? You mentioned earlier they were spot-on, but how are you sure?
Curious minds want to know
!Thanks

When I ordered my custom tunes from Troyer, I only provided them with my 4-digit code... Maybe THAT'S why I wasn't real impressed with them.
[QUOTE=BlackDawg]
HHMM. I just ordered my stuff on Tuesday and the main number they asked me for was the 4 digit number. In fact, if you go to Troyer's website on "how to locate computer code" it only asks for 4 digits. So what is this 7 you are talking about?
Taken from Troyer
2004 Ford F-150 (New Body Style):
Simply open the hood and locate the PCM (Powertrain Conrtrol Module) - it is at the top of the firewall, just left of center. It looks like a shiny rectangular-shaped aluminum box, and has three (3) separate wiring harness connectors on teh front of it. You will find the code either right on the PCM or very close to it (usually just to the right side of the PCM on the firewall), on a sticker. The format will be 3 letters followed by 1 number, like BME8, or MSE6, etc. - there are many different PCM codes for 2004, but they will always be in that exact same format of 3 letters followed by 1 number.
