Bastard! You made me buy an Edge ... um thanks! $318 is a great price.

Just did some research and what they are supposedly doing is illegal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resale_price_maintenance

Yup - someone's gotta pay for all that "R&D" !!!

...Can't see them raising it into 'custom tuner' price territory - market share would suffer some ... that would be a bad decision - greedy buggers ...

I'm leaning towards picking one up. I just don't know much about tuners. Someone convince me that I should get one! Also, how easy are these to use. I have to admit, I am a bit hesitant since I know nothing about them. Also, how easy/how often should one download updates? One last thing? Have any of you updated your Edge with the latest update before you even installed your unit?

All you got to do is search, and you should be convinced. I bought mine last summer when lots of changes were going on with the Edge, so I updated before installing. If I purchased one now and it had a recent manufacture date, I would not update it. There has to be a program change that applies to my needs for me to update. I have not updated since July, 2006, when I bought it. I cannot imagine driving my truck very far without the Edge.

I've read and read and read on this forum about tuners. Basically, it comes down to a Troyer xcalII or an edge. The troyer is a bit more money but specific for you truck. Takes longer to get in but will get every last bit of performance for your truck. To me the Edge is done...plug and play and cheaper. To me the edge is for more people who want to install a peformance mod and be done. And not continuallly update and change. Thats me. I want simple and easy bang for the buck. I'm not looking to reap every last bit of performance for my engine. I drive 12 miles a day and barely "get on it". So my my wide open throttle performance does not matter me. I like the screen and features of the Edge too. Both from what I read are great products. Its just what fits your budget and needs.

Yes, they ARE going up on April 1st, that is not any joke, and it's been planned for months - this affects ALL MSD products, including Edge and Superchips

And as always, we will meet or beat *anyone's* price on those products, just give us a quick call at our number listed below - so those trying to get their orders in before the price increase (which is simply the MAP price finally being properly enforced by all MSD companies, including Edge and Superchips, for example) takes effect need to do it RIGHT NOW.

Because as of April 1st, the new MAP pricing policy is set in stone, and ANYONE who sells below MAP will immediately and forever lose that entire product line - period.

And people are already stepping up their ordering of our Troyer Performance custom tuning as a result, because now you will be able to get it CHEAPER than you can get those off the shelf devices. If we had a brain, we'd raise our prices too, but we do not operate like that.

Well that's a fair question.

The manufacturer can reserve the right to create and further enforce a MAP policy for it's products' Advertised Prices.

They can also choose to enforce said MAP and the method of enforcement.

A quick tour in Google for MAP policies shows some interesting hits:

Here's one from Eminence Speaker LLC:

"MAP applies only to advertised prices and does not apply to the price at which the products are actually
sold or offered for sale to an individual consumer within the dealer’s retail location or over the telephone.
Eminence dealers and distributors remain free to sell these products at any prices they elect."

Here' another from Ambient Weather:

"Why are the prices hidden?
Certain manufacturers institute a Minimum Authorized Price, or "MAP" Policy. This is the minimum price that the manufacturer allows the product to be listed on our website.
However, we will often sell the product below MAP to maintain the lowest price on the Internet. Please click on the link provided below for Instant Lower Pricing, and you will receive an Email response within minutes."

Here's a third from GPSCity Canada:

"WHY DON'T WE SHOW THE PRICE
Many of the products we sell on-line are governed by the manufacturer's Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy. This policy does not permit authorized dealers of the manufacturer to display a selling price lower than their set minimum advertised price.
In almost all cases, we sell the item at a lower price than the MAP price, offering you substantial discounts, but in accordance with the MAP policy, we cannot show the price - you must call us or email us for it. However, for the on-line shopping cart, we do use the lower discounted selling price, and not the MAP price."

As you can see, interpretation, enforcement, penalties, etc are all over the map ( pun intended ). But there seems to be a commonality (bolded).

Bottom line: the manufacturer holds all the cards. It's legal.

It's legal as long as they have not joined other manufacturers of the same or similar product to set the prices.

HEY STEALTH.

You owe me a beer, buddy.

All I can say is I'm glad I got wind of this on time. I didn't plan on getting one till maybe the Fall, but I knew I wanted it. Amazing what a price increase'll do to people.

Also, HenkyJenky and Jeremy, yeah, I'm a bastard, sorry... NOT!!!

Same here

This thread also pushed me to buy one for that great price.I have been debating for months now and almost bought one around christmas for 360 but im glad i waited.Im hoping it will wake up the power and throttle response of my other bolt on mods,"ceramic headers, bbk throttle body, bbk intake, magnaflow exhaust"Just today i had all my fluids changed over to amsoil synthetic"engine oil, front and rear differential, tranny fluid"I also had the torque converter drained and also added amsoil's new performance enhancer engine treatment which it promises to be the leader in cleaning all vital components of the engine. This was a 300 dollar fluid day but i know in the long run it will all be worth it for life of all moving powertrain parts and also performance and gas milage as well.Allready i noticed a quieter engine, much nicer shifts,a more smooth feeling while driving as if things are less restrictive.NOw im ready to experience all the things i read about with my new edge, thanks for the coupon code that helped alot.

Add me to the club! I bought mine this morning from AutoAnything for $318 delivered. I figure with all the talk about the price increase, I'd better get it now while I have a few bucks. Now, the fun begins (waiting for it)

P.S.

Is this spending money on my truck EVER going to stop???????
