Cam Phaser - New Engine needed?

2019 f150 5.0 with 200K. It started clicking very heavily, all of a sudden.
Mechanic said cam phasers and it will be $2500-3000. He recommended driving it until I can't stand it and then putting a new engine, as that repair would be halfway to a new engine on a 200K motor.
I am leaning towards doing the replacement, but am not very familiar with cam phasers. Does this sound like a good plan and logical cause of the clicking?

when my cam phasers went out, it sounded like a diesel for about 10 seconds on startup. Ran fine. I had it fixed on warranty. 2018 with 40K miles.
