Factory on board cameras should auto record
 

Not sure if anyone thought of this:
Cameras should always be on constant record... it should have "auto save" the previous first 30 seconds from when the first "bump" occurs via shock sensors applied to the usual "accident prone" areas such as bumpers, front fenders, rear fenders, quarter panels, doors and maybe to continue to record 5 minutes after. It also should tie in the truck's inclinometer to sense the the truck's tilt when being jacked up or being towed illegally. Then the system should auto save with time and date and coordinates auto stamped onto video. That way, you have the entire footage of the incident/accident to determine who is at fault, perfect for disputes.

The system should have a switch embedded at all truck/car access points where the hood, doors, tailgate, gets shut or slammed so it won't generate a false positive. It should auto distinguish from a pine/acorn nut, hail or a cat hitting or landing on the hood/roof as well. Then the system should auto upload the video stream to a cloud where the owner designates or maybe bluetooth or wifi or to a USB drive and then to automatically clear the on board memory in the vehicle to make more room for the next recording. The technology is already there, nothing new, its new in terms of applying the idea. I would certainly buy it!

Ford should implement this on all their vehicles: cars, trucks and especially on their commercial vehicles.

Well I'm sure the po-po and the insurance companies would LOVE that idea but it also seems like an invasion of privacy and probably a violation of your 5th Amendment rights.

If you think that your vehicle needs an auto-recording camera then just add one. But a user OWNED and a user CONTROLLED camera is lot different than a built-in one that the owner has no control over and probably no RIGHTS to.

It does record, but only the CIA has access to the satellite it beams the signal to.

maybe while we are at it we should make the car fly, have the engine run on nothing but water, and allow it travel at light speed too?

seriously though - while your ideas are interesting, and could be considered good by some people - they are a tremendous amount of work. The systems you mention are all used for safety functions. Adding in these other tasks would take more memory and more processing power. This would add cost, and potentially create failures for the safety systems.

And on top of that - there are quite a few drivers that would not want them.

So why would Ford implement this design?

Then take it to the next step. In every vehicle and always on constant record and then they should decide by law it has to be uploaded to government agencies, insurance companies, employers, and Ford motor. Speeding? 5 mph over the speed limit and automatic fine and points on your license. Not coming to a complete stop at all stop signs including parking lot stop signs, automatic $300 fine, they got you on tape. Accidently not make a yellow light, $200 fine. Not signal every single time, that one time you don't, you get a fine in the mail! You see a pedestrian at a crosswalk and don't stop, fine! Accidently cross the median in the road, you are driving "erratically", $300 fine and points!

Stopped and asked by a cop he asks if he can search your vehicle, he says you got the video on and nothing to hide right? You should also have a body camera on at all times, and record all of your conversations, you never know when you'll need it. A truck was leaving the scene of a murder or terrorist attack and F-150 is on video at about the same time and you are now a suspect.

Also, be sure to send a video of all your actions to Ford Motor to make sure they spy on you to make sure you are following everything by the book, the owner's manual, for warranty purposes. Your friendly Ford Customer service rep will come on speaker when you are modding your vehicle. Hackers and private investigators can hack into your camera and track your moves. Great idea!

I guess that we should all be monitored like a bunch of prisoners, and support it to keep us safe and eslave us to the government. You want a security camera on your truck...That is your right, Cameras run by the auto companies and govn't and always on record are a precursor to totalitarianism.

BINGO! That is exactly what will happen once they start recording, it's only a matter of time before they start monitoring your driving habits and send you tickets in the mail that you can't fight.

Like a dash cam?
 

Why not an option like the dash cams. You don't want to record, turn it off. Or it could be an option at time of purchase. Dash Cams on new trucks/cars could be duplicative. I like the idea as long as I control it.
