Failed trailer connection for 7 pin connector 2018 F150
Hello: I have borrowed my friend's trailer that has a 7 pin connector. I do not have a brake controller but I do have the pre-wired 7 pin connector on the back of my truck. I hooked up the trailer and there are no lights at all and the dash indicator shows that there is no trailer connected. Have I missed something simple here? I know the lights work on the trailer.

Check relays and fuses. Without a factory brake controller they may not be installed.

I checked all the relays and fuses; all are installed
|
the 7 pin needs a fuse to be added IIRC
the TBC needs to be programmed to the vehicle if added do you know which wires you have or dont have power on? |
I think I will try to adapt to the 4 pin connector on the truck; all I need is brakes
|
I don't believe the 4 pin wiring is capable of supporting the voltage load of running electrical brakes
|
4 pin only gives you lights, not brakes. If you have all relays and fuses installed, even without a TBC you should have lights through the 7 pin.
|
Check the wiring connector that sits above the spare tire. Drivers side of the truck. Mine rattled loose and gave me bad trailer light warnings. Once connected and taped I haven’t had issues.

I hope it's fixed by now, this was almost 2 years ago.
