Looking at 2017 XLT

Finally looking to replace my old SCF150. I am looking at used 2017-18 suppercrew 4x4 models. I have been reading and searching forums...

locally (FL) there are a number of used trucks, with a lot of them being canadian...is that bad?

I do tow, up to 5000 a few times a month, typically short distances. All three engine choices are readily available and would easily tow my boat and utility trailer. I drive around 300 miles a week right now (I hope this drops off).

any suggestions or combinations to avoid?

thanks!

There are actually 4 engine choices - base V6, 2 Ecoboost V6's, and 5.0 V8.

Seems a lot of frozen north country (salted roads) vehicles make their way down south, probably because they can be sold for more money to unsuspecting buyers in the south. I wouldn't buy one myself but if the price is right?

Well -- sort of.

Canadian V&T and inspection laws are much stricter regarding rust and rot.

Here in the states (most states; though there are some like Massachewsitts that are strict about rust and rot!), most places don't pay much attention to rusted/rotted parts during your routine yearly (if req'd by your state) inspection.

I know in NY all they really care about is brakes/tires and no CEL illuminated.

Well, southern vehicles don't rust unless you park them close to the beach. Why buy a northern truck that has seen salted roads if you don't have to because there has been some corrosion going on somewhere on the vehicle.

Thanks, looks like all the screws around all have 3.5 or 5.0 . Starnge that none of the xlt I have looked at had receiver hitches or backup cameras. History has shown I need a backup camera.

I'm very careful when backing up and I never back into parking spaces. It's just an error prone thing to do. And, I have a wireless temporary camera I use to hitch up my boat which works great.
