Just curious, I found out they are **** about logging mileage you changed the oil if you do it yourself.

I did mine around 5500, 10700, 15800 and today at 20258. But was curious to see if it's possible to go back and find the exact mileage.

I drive a lot so it's mileage, not "time", I drive about 5000 miles every 3 months

I idle a lot it seems and my light didnt come on till around 9000.

Cheaper to have the dealer do it so I wont be changing it.

You could always take pictures and show receipts for the material.

Question: I've got about 10,000 miles on mine and it told me to do an oil change. % left hit around 10k. When is a good time to do an oil change? When the oil life ends by the computer telling you too or some mileage like 5k or 10k?

There is a formula it uses apparently, its in truck info section of the productivity screen; it tells you percent life along with running hours info broken down.

At around 5-10% I checked the oil and it was coal black and about a quart low. I put a quart in it and ran it down to 2%, just by luck I took it down that low I've been way to busy to take it into the shop and it needed some other stuff done at the dealer so no time to leave it.

They should have an option where you can change this to like an "extreme duty" interval so the light comes on sooner. It really felt like it needed an oil change.

The Works for $39.99. Includes 5 qts, rotation, you do pay for additional oil needed for the engine. They do the work, they dispose of the old oil and they record the oil change in the vehicle record.

I've been doing the same thing the past couple years now. My truck takes 7 quarts so with tax and all it comes to $48.60. It also includes an actual battery load test and multi-point inspection.

And since I can't handle rotating my tires anymore (partially disabled) it's a no brainier for me.

I do the same "Works" and the dealer even washes the truck for the same price. Hard to beat that.

Same here - AND if you have the dealer do it, you have a record of maintenance that Ford cannot dispute if something goes wrong with the vehicle.

I would never go 10k miles on a synthetic blend, doesn't matter what engine it has. 5k is a nice ballpark to change the oil. When I change mine I set it to 50 percent, that way when it gets to 0 then I'm at my 5k. Even running a full synthetic I still do 5k, with a N/A engine I'd possibly consider pushing it to 7500 with full sythetic.

I would have thought about the same but these new trucks the manual even states 10,000 miles. They do hold 7 quarts of oil so maybe that helps? I took mine up to about 9600 and decided that was close enough and changed it. I did change it myself just to see and the oil did not look any different than normal but that was only my eye test.

My last truck had about 160000 on it when I traded and I used Motorcraft blend and changed every 5-6000 miles. But it only held about 6 quarts.

I use 5k when I'm towing/on dusty roads or in the mountains. I go 7500 driving highway miles. Has always worked for me. Put over 165k on a '07 5.4L with the original phasers and timing chain. That engine is still quiet and uses less that 1/2 quart of oil in 5K. I use Ford's Works or Mobil 1 if not at the dealer.

If you want to see how the engine is doing, send an oil sample out for analysis.

You realize that our trucks take 7.5 quarts, right???

My total cost for the oil change is

2x Valvoline 5w/20 oil $14.99 / 5 quarts ($2.99/quart) at Walmart total cost $22.48
1x motorcraft oil filter $5.39

Total cost $29.82 (including tax) and less than 1 hour of my time... so i'm getting 2 oil changes for what you are paying for 1. And I know what i'm getting.

I don't need a multi-point inspection or battery check. I know when my battery is dead, and don't need some mechanic selling me services I don't need

I have no idea, I change my oil religiously at 5,000 miles, and when I look at the engine oil life left thing, it says I have 63% or something left, no idea...

Also, rather than sell me on someone changing my oil for me, can anyone answer my question?
