Running Board Bracket Stud - need nut size and thread type

I bought some "new pull" factory running boards off of ebay for my 2015, got a real good deal on them, but the guy did not include the nuts needed to bolt up the mounting brackets to the stud on the cab body.

Does anyone know the thread size and type of this nut so I can go buy 12 of them to finish the job?

Just FYI, it's a M8-1.25 flanged nut. Bought it at the hardware store for .60 each, or you can buy them from Ford for $7.00 each and get them in a week.

Actually after a couple tries from the hardware store that was not quite right, I ended up finally finding a dealer that would sell me the part for non-rape prices:

Here is the part number

W706840-S440 $1.19ea

I could not get a nut from any hardware store that worked right and I didnt want to cross thread them.

I had to chase the thread with a die because of paint on the thread. Glad you got it to work.

I actually think it is a non-standard thread. Like I said, I tried several metric nuts, no off the shelf nut worked. I wasnt going to force the nuts on. You probably cross-threaded or messed them up because the thread pitch was off. The ones I got from Ford were perfect and went right on.

Did they stop using these u-nuts to instal the running boards on 2015's? All 2014 and back use those same style u-nuts.

No, they still use those, I HAD those and the little bolts to connect the running board to the bracket. What I did not have was the nut to bolt the running board bracket to the truck.

M8 x 1.25 is a course thread. The fine thread is M8 x 1 or extra fine M8 x .75. The fine thread metric fasteners can be hard to find since most local hardware stores don't carry them.

I'm a little confused. Those u nuts are the ones that connect the bracket to the truck, not the bracket to the running board.

No, on the 2015, those connect the running board to the mounting bracket. There are 3 threaded studs which are already present on every 2015, even if your truck does not come with running boards. The running board mounting brackets slide over these studs and you tighten them up using 3 flange nuts per bracket. I dont know how it was done on the 2004-2014 trucks, mine didnt have them and I never put them on

Gotcha. Guess they changed how the running boards mount to the truck on the 2015 model. Sorry for any confusion.

They did supposedly. Apparently before there were holes in the frame and you had to use a bolt of some kind and nut to affix them to the frame/body. Now there are 3 studs per bracket already present on the body to just mount them up. Pretty handy.

Actually there are 3 sets of 3 studs per side, but you only use 2. I'm guessing the other set of studs is for a different model of running board, like maybe the electronic extending ones, who knows. Because the ones I got (the normal "black platform running board") only has 2 brackets and 2 sets of bracket mounting holes on the running board itself. I was considering buying 2 more brackets for more "support", but theres nowhere to bolt it up to the running board itself.

Plus I determined there is plenty of support anyway, these things are pretty strong.

Sounds good! I just installed a set of oem 2010 running boards on my 2008. And yeah, the holes are already there on the rocker and just above the rocker. It used 8 u nuts per side. But that's irrelevant since they changed them.

Hope you have it figured out.
