Question of the Week: Is 450hp enough power for the 2017 Raptor?

Ford exec Raj Nair stated during the television coverage oft he Rolex 24 that the 2017 F150 Raptor would pack 450hp from its 3.5L SVT EcoBoost V6.

Provided that 450 turns out to be the accurate horsepower figure, is that a good power level for the newest Raptor?

450hp isn't bad for stock, leaves plenty on the table for aftermarket tuners

that is a loaded question. On one hand yea that is a lot of power for a stock truck but being that it is THE RAPTOR I would of liked to have seen it with 525 stock hp. I mean come on it is the Raptor. Wether or not is should have kept the V-8, I think will come down to evolution and opinion. Evolution says smaller engine with turbos you can make the same amount of power or more and less weight and we all know less weight equals a faster vehicle and in this case could allow us to fly higher and longer. and that is just pure fun. As for me I would prefer the big bad 6.2l V-8. nothing will replace that sound.

This is getting old. This is just another poll/post from Internet Brands to call into question and plant the seeds of doubt about the F-150. Just a couple polls ago Patrick was advocating for the use of the Super Duty's 6.2L for the F-150 which has 385 @ 5500 RPM. Now this new EB will allegedly have 450+HP @ a much lower RPM and that is now not enough? smh. Come up with a new game or allow members here to create their own polls.

The 3.5L EB Twin Turbo's Six Pack will be quenching TO all this power.. No such place anymore for upgrades & tuning, it has been done.. Power & Controls are joining their apogee. The Momentum of this wonderful Design & Art of Engineering is now at its limits of What technology can reach for a production vehicule..

HaHa!
I taught this was a serious thread.. Still, the question remain revealant.
For some numbers, 450HP (DIN) for this 3.5L EB makes near 130 HP per liter which is similar to the 2.3L EB at 132HP/L. This is surpassing the Cadillac Twin turbo with its 120HP/L.
If this number is right, the 2017 3.5L EB will make the most powerful V6 engine on the American market. On the Europeen side, Mercedes introduced its GLA AMG cranking a huge 180HP/L, at this time, this is the world most powerful turbo engine, which AMG blueprint this from the race track.
Perhaps, we aren’t talking of race engine here..
This 3.5L is made for pulling, for fun, and yes, its purpose is to bring you at work and still, with reliability.
What can you ask more from a twin turbo V6 3.5L?
I own a 3.5L EB (with it’s second engine now) and I’ve seen some EB 3.5L which heads failed and others with bent pistons rods, when passing this 130HP/L limit with higher octane and more boost for the race track.
I understand that the new 2017 Raptor EB 3.5L may had been engineered by Ford Racing with upgraded parts which failed in the past, but still, I believe that if you try to unpack this new 3.5L motor you will seriously have to let aside reliability.
Time will tell and we’ll see..

Isn't the engine in the new Ford GT the same 3.5L Ecoboost? Tt's putting out 600+hp. I find it hard to believe they would release the stock engine in that thing with those kind of numbers if it had reliability issues.

Remember that the this truck will have more HP than the 6.2L did, at a lower RPM, and the trucks will be several hundred pounds lighter. 450HP will be plenty in stock form.

With some unofficial results of the stock EB already into the 5s 0-60, how could another 85 hp not be enough?

As for the 6.2, it's rated somewhat over 400 horsepower, 385 is the number for the 15 5.0.
