Update on 10 Speed Trans Issue

Has Ford solved the hard shift with the 10 speed trans? I am considering a 2018 SuperCrew w/ 5.0 to replace my 01 SuperCrew 5.4. I pull about 5,000# horse trailer weekly, but will be upgrading to one around 7,000#. I want a truck that will last at least 10 years and 150,000 with no major issues. I'd rather have an F250, but that is not in the budget right now. (I've bought houses for less $!)

Powerwise a 2018 SuperCrew with the 5.0 will be a noticeable power improvement.

However, people don't like the 10 speed. At least from the banter on here, it seems like it's a questionable transmission.

7K# on a F150 is pushing it, especially if you are doing it weekly, especially a horse trailer.

I don't know if I'd pull that big of a horse trailer with live horses in it with a F150. I'd feel OK barely with a F250 especially if they get a little "rowdy" on the way into town going down the interstate. I'd feel good to go with a F350 or higher.

But I know you don't have the funds.

Maybe a used SD gas with the 6.2l V8?

I will be honest, I have not priced an F250 lately, but when I bought my 2015 5.0 SCREW, a gas F250 cost several thousand LESS than the F150's, comparably equipped...

Diesel, forget about it, and the higher end trim packages on the super duties make them ridiculous. But XL or lower end XLT's should be comparable in price to an F150, and the 6.2 is a much better towing motor

Coming from a an 02 f150 5.4L to 2011 f150 5.0L 6 speed and finally this year to a 2018 f150 3.5L 10 speed I can tell you from my perspective each one was a true jump in power and capability. I’ve towed with all 3. The last two have had 7000+ lb travel trailers and each pulled admirably with the best being the 2018. I attribute this in part to the 10 speed transmission.
When I first got the truck it wasn’t as smooth as the 6 speed but after driving it for a couple thousand miles it has really smoothed out. I originally wanted another 5.0L but couldn’t find one equipped as I wanted and after a few test drives I was happy I chose the 3.5 turbo.
No regrets here. Power, torque, fuel economy have all exceeded my expectations. Looking for many years enjoying this smooth riding beast.
