As of today issue still not resolved Ford has taken over the investigation . Neither dealer can apply either tsb 72 or 58 ford is investigating , My problems are exactly what these tsbs fix except my truck has never had a check engine light come on so apparently that is why they cant update my firmware with these tsbs

While my 2015 was at shop being repaired they gave me a loaner which was a 2018 F 150 Supercrew 5.0 V8 10 speed automatic transmission. With cruise control set at 55 mph on a flat highway for a 45 minute drive I noticed the transmission never went into high gear 10th gear. This was the first time I drove a 10 speed so not familiar with them. It did have the auto start stop feature which I do not like because it just increases wear and tear on the starter. I had a 98 F 150 that had starter problems and that starter back then cost $600.00. It was a good thing that it was still under warranty. I bet a starter today on a V8 would cost more than it did back then.

As of today ford is denying any issues with the 5.0 and 10 speed trans.
The tech and i both agree there is a software issue but until ford decides to address the issue nothing can be done.

I had been considering trading in and upgrading our F150 to this exact combo. So glad I stumbled on this thread. I will not be buying a new F150 until the issue is solved. According to postings, as of mid March 2018 it has not be resolved.

2018 10 speed shifting issues

Hello i was was wondering if you have found a fix to this issue yet? I just got a 2018 and am having the same issues to the T. I was just wanting to see where you are with this and if you had any contact information for ford or who you might be dealing with.

Don't know why the issue with the 10 speed would be unique to the 5.0. Both the 5.0 and 3.5 turbo put out similar torque numbers, although at radically different RPM ranges

same physical hardware
different software/programming strategies

easy explanation on why the 5.0 may experience different symptoms than the 3.5 or 2.7, or even the new 3 0 PSD

no different than the 6R80 having lots of issues on GM trucks, but was pretty solid on the F150s

Found Fix

i talked with a local dealers Master tech today and he has seen this problem multiple times. The fix is a new tcm or torque converter or both. The will do a tcm update twice then they are allowed to change either or both to fix the problem. Most of the times it’s the torque converter causing the problem.

According to the Ford F150 ads, they come with a "heavy duty" starter and battery because of the stop/start feature. I don't like that feature either.
