What do you say when people tell you you don't need a truck?

Brett just posted this video on the HP, and it got me thinking about what folks here say when asked that question. I used to get it all the time, because I used my old pickup as a run around in the city. I had all kinds of answers in my back pocket, but I always liked explaining how if people weren't careful when parallel parking they could wind up totaling their little crap box on my bumpers. Ha ha. But I always fell back on, "because I like it." What do you say?

I need a truck a lot more than I need you. That would be my response as everybody I know owns at least one truck. Only a moron that recently moved here would make such a stupid statement.

My 500 lbs. of tools don't fit in a Preuz, nor do I.

No one has ever asked me that before, but I guess the answer would depend on if I knew that person or not.. If it was just a random person I didn't know and said that, I think I'd just say, "because apparently it pisses you off and what business is it of yours?"

If it was someone I know, I'd have to ask "Why would you question that?"

I tell them "Great, then you can't borrow it when you need it either!" That usually shuts them up.

Never get that around my area as trucks way outnumber cars with suv's being second to pickups. I am somewhat in the outer burbs of a busy metropolitan area. The closer you get to the city the more cars you'll see. People that say you don't need something usually want one themselves :)

I started buying 4x4 trucks because for 20 years I worked as a temporary engineering contractor. The truck with a camper shell allowed me to haul some apt furnishings to and from my jobs. I bought 4x4 trucks for safety reasons because many of my jobs were in the frozen north. Now that I am retired, I keep my 4x4 truck because my wife and I like to drive out on the beach to enjoy the water and fish in the surf. If it wasn't for driving on the beach sand, I probably would sell my truck and just drive my Hemi Magnum because it is more fun to drive and gets better gas mileage. I have a trailer that my Magnum can pull so I really don't need the truck for hauling.

My pat answer generally is, "if I thought it was any of your business, you would be the first one I would tell." :thumber:

I like trucks and it's America... no one can tell me what to drive except my wallet...

Scott91370 01-14-2018 01:07 PM

I'm in Texas, nobody talks like that down here.
And if someone thought they knew better than me as to what I need then they can buy my next vehicle.

open up that back door. Will load the trash and garbage in the
back seat and we'll just take it down to the drop off center

My truck with that bed, starts to look pretty darn good to them

Everyone that knows me knows what I use both of my trucks for so no one would ask but If someone did Id tell them I use my new truck to pull my motorcycle trailer and my old truck for home depot and dump runs, or "None of your business" works too.

I live in Germany and own two F-150s. And over here no fullsize pickups are officially sold, so it does stick out anywhere and people ask a lot about anything since they just don't know these trucks. When I tell them that it is more practical especially as a family vehicle than anything I can think of, they look at me like I was talking chinese. However that usually ends the discussion and I let them go back to their underpowered, noisy and expensive VW Bus which Germans think is the most practical thing ever.:)
I love the american way of drive and thank Ford at least twice a month for building these trucks. :thumber:
