What do you say when people tell you you don't need a truck?
Brett just posted this video on the HP, and it got me thinking about what folks here say when asked that question. I used to get it all the time, because I used my old pickup as a run around in the city. I had all kinds of answers in my back pocket, but I always liked explaining how if people weren't careful when parallel parking they could wind up totaling their little crap box on my bumpers. Ha ha. But I always fell back on, "because I like it." What do you say?

No one has ever asked me that before, but I guess the answer would depend on if I knew that person or not.. If it was just a random person I didn't know and said that, I think I'd just say, "because apparently it pisses you off and what business is it of yours?"
If it was someone I know, I'd have to ask "Why would you question that?"

I started buying 4x4 trucks because for 20 years I worked as a temporary engineering contractor. The truck with a camper shell allowed me to haul some apt furnishings to and from my jobs. I bought 4x4 trucks for safety reasons because many of my jobs were in the frozen north. Now that I am retired, I keep my 4x4 truck because my wife and I like to drive out on the beach to enjoy the water and fish in the surf. If it wasn't for driving on the beach sand, I probably would sell my truck and just drive my Hemi Magnum because it is more fun to drive and gets better gas mileage. I have a trailer that my Magnum can pull so I really don't need the truck for hauling.

I live in Germany and own two F-150s. And over here no fullsize pickups are officially sold, so it does stick out anywhere and people ask a lot about anything since they just don't know these trucks. When I tell them that it is more practical especially as a family vehicle than anything I can think of, they look at me like I was talking chinese. However that usually ends the discussion and I let them go back to their underpowered, noisy and expensive VW Bus which Germans think is the most practical thing ever.
I love the american way of drive and thank Ford at least twice a month for building these trucks.
